Staraptor is paired with Pom-Pom Style Oricorio in this deck. Oricorio can function as an early-game attacker as Staraptor evolves. It can also be switched in to counter ex Pokemon and negate their damage with its Ability.
The Rare Candy gives Staraptor an opportunity to be in play during earlier turns. If paired with Barry, this may give you the chance to use Brave Bird by Turn 3.

Staraptor's Brave Bird has an Attack Cost of 3. However, Barry can reduce the cost of Staraptor's Attack by 2, making it an effective single-point damage dealer. Druddigon can stall for turns until Staraptor is set up, with Shaymin reducing Retreat Costs for the deck's Basic Pokemon.

Staraptor synergizes with Barry which gives it a reduced cost for its Brave Bird Attack.

Rare Candy can allow Staraptor to be set up immediately, skipping the need to evolve into Staravia.

Druddigon is the best starter for this deck as it can deal passive damage with its Rough Skin Ability. Keep Druddigon active for as long as you need until Starly is set up into Staraptor.
This deck also runs Fire and Water Energy, making it one of few decks where Druddigon can also go on the offensive.

Starly only has 50 HP. This allows it to easily get KOd by Pokemon that can do 50 damage on their first turn. Use cards like Sabrina and Cyrus to draw it out into the Active Spot and knock it out.
