Best Starting Hand

Having Druddigon in the active spot with a Rocky Helmet on allows it to reflect 40 damage when tanking hits, giving you enough time to attach energy to Starly and ultimately evolve it into Staraptor.

With Professor's Research, try to pull your other Druddigon to protect Starly from Sabrina or another Starly to evolve.

Other Good Starting Cards

Recommended Starting Hand

Drawing Shaymin instead of Druddigon for your opening hand can work too as you can immediately attack on your first energy.

Space-time Smackdown Starly can also remove the Tool its target is equipped with using Pluck, best used to bypass the damage dealt by Rocky Helmet.

Despite being a viable starting play, you should still try to draw Druddigon and immediately swap out Starly with Shaymin's help.

Use Brave Bird with Giovanni

Staraptor's Brave Bird can deal 140 damage when paired with Giovanni. With the damage increase, Staraptor can KO high HP Pokemon such as Arceus ex, Leafeon ex, and Darkrai ex in one hit.

Since Staraptor also receives 20 damage with each use of Brave Bird,

Use Druddigon as a Secondary Attacker

Excess Energy can be attached to Druddigon so it can attack while taking damage for Staraptor. Druddigon can then lower a Pokemon's HP until it drops down within Brave Bird's KO range before a quick swap with Staraptor.
