ex Pokemon cards are some of the most powerful cards in the game, with some decks and strategies even centered around this kind of card.
ex cards generally have high HP with powerful attacks and Abilities, but it may take some time to set them up in the field as they usually require several Energy before they can launch an attack.
Basic ex Card | Stage 2 ex Card |
---|---|
A few ex Pokemon are Basic cards that you can immediately place on the field if you wish, but some of them are Stage 1 or Stage 2 cards, which require you to evolve from their initial forms.
You can prepare a Pokemon with an ex card evolution in your Bench, and then switch it with your Active Pokemon once it is ready.
Defeating an ex Pokemon will reward a player two points as per the ex Rule, which makes using ex cards risky at times.
If you use an ex Pokemon in play and it is knocked out by your opponent, they will be two points close to winning the match, as a player only needs three points to win the game. The same is also the same when your opponent uses an ex Pokemon, so it can be useful to target their card.
Select ex Pokemon cards have alternate card versions with full art illustrations and designs, which are relatively hard to get as they are rare pulls from booster packs.
These cards still play the same way as their regular card versions, and have no advantages in battles.
