There are theories that you can spot which booster packs have rare cards in Pokemon Trading Card Game Pocket (PTCG Pocket). Find out if there is a way to identity rare packs, other pack superstitions, and whether they work here!
There is no definite way to tell if a pack contains a rare card since the pack opening sequence can be skipped. Since the pack animation is skippable, there is a possibility that your cards have already been decided when you chose to open a booster pack in the home menu.
Bent Corner | Regular Corner |
---|---|
The Bent Corner theory is a method where players decide which booster pack to open based on a crease found on the upper right corner of the pack.
After selecting a booster pack from the home screen, an animation will play where you get to choose which pack you want to open. Turn each pack sideways and if you see a curled or wavy corner, then there is a high chance that pack contains a rare card.
Keep in mind that the bent corner might not always show up in pack selection.
Rare Packs Explained: All Odds and Pull Rates
The presence of the skip button implies that the card results might be the same regardless of which pack you choose. However, we tested the Bent Corner theory, and while the findings are still inconclusive, these were our results so far:
Attempt No. | Cards Pulled | Highest Rarity | Contains 3♢+? |
---|---|---|---|
1 | 2♢ | ❌ | |
2 | 2♢ | ❌ | |
3 | 4♢ | ✔ | |
4 | ☆ | ✔ | |
5 | 3♢ | ✔ | |
6 | ☆ | ✔ | |
7 | 2♢ | ❌ | |
8 | ☆ | ✔ | |
9 | 2☆ | ✔ | |
10 | ☆ | ✔ | |
11 | 2♢ | ❌ | |
12 | 3♢ | ✔ | |
13 | 2♢ | ❌ | |
14 | 3♢ | ✔ | |
15 | 2♢ | ❌ |
Packs with Rarity of | # of Packs | % of Packs |
---|---|---|
>2♢ | 5 | ~33% |
3♢+ | 10 | ~67% |
1☆+ | 6 | 40% |
Although inconclusive, initial testing does appear to indicate a trend toward higher rarity cards in the bent packs, however much more testing is required to confirm this!
Whether or not there is a guaranteed way of identifying rare packs, don't let that stop you from creating your own pack superstitions! Share your own pack picking rituals with others through the comments below.

I have notice that on occasion you will find a pack with its back side turned toward you (that you did not turn yourself) and they seem to give good cards.
