This startup allows you to attach extra energy to Arceus ex and Chimchar (to be used by Infernape ex) once Heatran is already set. Should you draw Infernape ex early, you can use it to finish off the Pokemon Heatran damaged.

You can also chip away the opponent Pokemon's HP with Chimchar as your first active Pokemon. Immediately use the Pokeball followed by Professor's Research during your first turn and hope to get Heatran from the draws.

If you also drew Infernape ex, try keeping Chimchar in the active spot until you can expend all its energy with Infernape ex before swapping it with Heatran or Arceus ex.

Heatran Deck Strategies

Use Heatran as an Offensive Tank

The main strategy of this deck is to have Heatran tank hits while you setup Infernape ex and Arceus ex on the bench. Heatran deals 80 damage per attack once it gets damaged and with the help of the Rocky Helmet, it can even knock out an ex Pokemon within two turns.

Having Arceus ex also lets Heatran retreat for free, protecting it from direct attacks while also letting Arceus ex or Infernape ex deal the final blow.

Infernape ex is an Excellent Finisher

With Heatran as the bruiser in this deck, it will be easier to get the opponent Pokemon's HP down for Infernape ex to execute. In addition to having 170 HP, Infernape ex has zero retreat cost, making it harder to knock out.

Use Arceus ex as a Backup Attacker

Arceus' attack can deal up to 130 damage with a full bench and is a more capable attacker against Pokemon with high HP than Heatran or when Infernape ex can't attack. Switch Arceus ex in whenever a tanky Pokemon's HP drops to at least 130 to take it off the board and get your point.
