Pokemon cannot attack or retreat Every turn, the player must do a coin toss. If it lands on Heads, the pokemon wakes up. |
A pokemon afflicted with Sleep will be unable to attack or retreat. Although it has the same effects as Paralysis, Sleep can last more than 1 turn if a player cannot get Heads on a coin toss.
There is a phase at the end of each Player's turn where all pokemon with status effects will be checked by the game. If you have a status condition, the game will make you take damage, do a coin toss, or recover naturally.
Since checks happen on every change of turns, your status ailments can also cure at the end of your opponent's turn.

Sleep can only be cured by evolving or landing Heads on a coin toss. It is usually not possible to withdraw Pokemon while they are asleep since they unable to retreat.
However, if a Weezing or a Muk are afflicted with Sleep, you can use the supporter card Koga to force them to return to bench. Returning to bench will cure any status effect.
Additionally, the new Lum Berry card is a one-time use Pokemon Tool that will cure special conditons including Sleep from the Pokemon.
