Primary Attacker | Disruption | Description |
---|---|---|
Grapploct | Pidgeot |
・Grapploct’s attack and Pidgeot’s Ability lets you forcefully switch your opponent's Active Pokemon, which you can use to control your opponent's side of the field. ・Both Grapploct and Pidgeot have high HP, and can reliably stay in the field. |
Best Starting Hand |
---|
Having both Clobbopus and Grapploct in your starting hand can ease setting up as you only need a few more turns to fully prepare Grapploct.
At the sidelines, you can prepare Pidgey on your bench and look for its evolution lines with Professor’s Research.
Recommended Starting Hand |
---|
If you were not able to get Grapploct early, then you can switch to setting up Pidgey to be your initial Active Pokemon, although it will take more turns as Pidgeot is a Stage 2 card.

Grapploct Control | ||
---|---|---|
If you are able to prepare Clobbopus early and are not against a Psychic-type deck, then you can position Grapploct as your main attacker and control card. Each turn, you'll be able to deal a hefty amount of damage and force your opponent to change their Active Pokemon.
Additionally, Clobbopus has 80 HP, which helps it to tank a few hits early on even while you are setting up.
On your bench, you can prepare your Pidgeot and your second Grapploct which you can switch in if your initial Grapploct gets knocked out.
Pidgeot Control | ||
---|---|---|
If you manage to have Pidgey line cards in your hand during your initial turns and are not fighting against a Lightning-type deck, then you can set up Pidgeot as your main attacker and control card, but do note that this can take longer as Pidgeot is a Stage 2 card.
On you bench, you can prepare Grapplocts as a substitute if you want to switch Pidgeot out. This will be fairly easy to do so as Pidgeot only needs one Energy to retreat.
Key Card(s) Required | |
---|---|
Step | Description |
1 | Start with Clobbopus and Pidgey and place them on the field. |
2 | Use Professor’s Research to look for Grapploct. |
3 | Attack with Grapploct to do some damage. |
Key Card(s) Required | |
---|---|
Step | Description |
1 | Evolve Clobbopus into Grapploct and use its move to deal damage and force your opponent to switch their Active Pokemon every turn. |
2 | If Grapploct is low, use X Speed to switch to Pidgeot and repeat the same strategy. Use Potion to restore Grapploct's HP. |
3 | If your opponent switched to a Lightning-type Pokemon to counter Pidgeot, retreat and bring back Grapploct to the Active Spot. |
Deck | Commentary |
---|---|
Darkness-type Decks |
・Weak to Fighting-type cards. ・Opponent will have a hard time keeping their cards alive as they will keep getting damaged and forcefully switched out by Grapploct and Pidgeot. |
Deck | Commentary |
---|---|
Mewtwo ex Decks |
・Grapploct is weak to Psychic-type cards. ・Forcing Mewtwo ex out of the Active Spot may even help the card, as it can take damage from Grapploct and Pidgeot and gain turns to amass Energy. ・Once set up, Mewtwo ex can easily knock out Grapploct and Pidgeot. |
Zapdos ex Decks |
・Easily counters Pidgeot. ・Zapdos ex can be set up quickly, and can easily roll through the Grapploct deck if it takes a long time to be prepared. |
On paper, Grapploct and Pidgeot are great cards to use as they can slowly soften the opposing field by dealing damage and switching up the opponent's Active Pokemon.
However, mileage for this deck may greatly vary depending on how quickly both cards can be set up, as Grapploct needs three Energy to be able to attack, while Pidgeot is a Stage 2 card which may be hindered by unlucky draw.
Both cards also suffer against decks that revolve around using high HP Pokemon, with no way to counter against tanky cards.
Card | Possible Cuts |
---|---|
Giovanni |
・ Improves damage output of Grapploct or Pidgeot. ・ Two turns of 70 damage attacks with one powered up by Giovanni can knock out Mewtwo ex. |
