・Use Leaf to reduce Retreat Cost and retreat Pokemon to Bench ・Use Vaporeon to transfer energy from Bench Pokemon to Gyarados ex. |
Best Starting Hand |
---|
Starting with Magikarp is not always bad. Attach an Energy and use Leap Out to get it out of the Active Spot. This allows you to safely move Magikarp to the Bench while also attaching an Energy to it for the turn while you send out a different Active Pokemon.
Recommended Starting Hand |
---|
A turn 2 Gyarados ex is also strong, but that would mean Magikarp would need to survive a turn. Use Poke Ball to find a Benched Pokemon so that you don't get donked, and use Misty only when Gyarados ex is in play, that way you don't end up losing Energy if Magikarp is KOd.

T1 Misty | ||
---|---|---|
A successful T1 Misty can often spell victory for Articuno ex decks, creating an advantage that's difficult to catch up to. Use Misty and turn attachments to power up Articuno ex as quick as possible.
Vaporeon and Leaf can be used in tandem to be more efficient with your attached Energy and also for paying for Gyarados ex's high energy cost.
Use Leaf to reduce the Retreat Cost of your active pokemon and bring them to the Bench. Afterwards, you can use Vaporeon's Wash Out Ability to take the energy of your Benched Pokemon and transfer them to Gyarados ex.
Gyarados ex's Rampaging Whirlpool can randomly discard energy from any pokemon. This move can be very advantageous if it could discard energy from your opponent's pokemon, but keep in mind that it can also take energy from your own pokemon.

Deck | Commentary |

Fire Decks |
・Water Decks naturally match up favorably against Fire decks. |
Deck | Commentary |

Pikachu ex Decks |
・ Pokemon in the deck are all weak to Lightning. ・ Difficult counterplay to disadvantageous damage trades. |
The deck may struggle in the early game but can win in the mid to late game thanks to Gyarados ex's damage, disruption, and survivability. While Misty can help mitigate the deck's early-game weakness, starting with Magikarp and its low HP can prove to be detrimental to the deck's success. Be sure to bench Magikarp only if you have Gyarados ex ready for the following turn.

Genetic Apex Gyarados can function as a stand-in for if you don't have Gyarados ex yet. It also has a massive payoff for its Hyper Beam attack. The deck's strategy remains the same with Vaporeon, Misty, and Leaf letting you be efficient with your Energy.
