Strategy 1: T1 Misty

T1 Misty

A successful T1 Misty can often spell victory for Lapras ex decks, creating an advantage that's difficult to catch up to. Use Misty and turn attachments to power up Lapras ex as quick as possible.

Best Misty Decks

Strategy 2: Red Card

Use Red Card if your opponent has already exhausted one of their two Professor's Research. Red Card is also especially useful against decks with multiple evolution lines. This can shuffle back evolution cards into their deck, delaying them for multiple turns.

A well-placed Red Card can keep an opponent from mounting offense.

Game Phases

Early Game

Key Card(s) Required
Step Description
1 A Misty start is what you always want with this deck. Always go for this turn 1 play and attempt to donk your opponent before they can evolve their Pokemon.

Mid-Game

Key Card(s) Required
Step Description
1 Use Sabrina to draw out unprepared Pokemon from your opponent's Bench. This is great for knocking out unevolved support Pokemon like Ralts, or Pokemon that may become problems once evolved like Charmander or Bulbasaur.

Late Game

Key Card(s) Required
1 Use Giovanni to boost your damage by 10 when necessary, and get your 2HKOs whenever you can. Use Red Card to disrupt your opponent's set up, and deny them from return KOs.

Lapras ex Deck Best and Worst Matchups

Best Matchups

Deck Commentary

Charizard ex Decks
Type: Fire

・Water Decks naturally match up favorably against Fire decks.
・Lapras ex will have to outpace their Moltres ex.

Worst Matchups

Deck Commentary

Pikachu ex Decks
Type: Lightning

・ Lapras ex is weak to Lightning.
・ Difficult counterplay to disadvantageous damage trades.

Overall Consistency

This deck works very similarly to Articuno ex decks, but with Lapras ex instead of Articuno ex.

The Lapras ex deck with no backup attackers maximizes consistency in exchange of flexibility with Pokemon options. This deck maximizes its Trainer card options however, so every card in your hand is usable most of the time.

Farfetch'd

・ Non-ex secondary attacker can give the deck a non-ex option so that it can trade points more effectively. Farfetch'd still shares a weakness with Lapras ex, however.
・ Can immediately exert pressure at minimal cost while Lapras ex sets up on the Bench.

Pokedex

・ Pokedex can give you valuable information for the following turns.
