Skarmory can start swinging for 50 with Metal Arms if you have a Tool attached. Turn 1 Skarmory and Tool immediately puts offensive pressure on your opponent's Pokemon, effectively 3HKOing most exs. Darkrai ex notably takes multiple turns before it can retaliate for a KO, but Skarmory will have damaged it a lot by then.

Magnemite with Magneton in your opening hand also puts you ahead in momentum because Magneton can start using its Volt Charge Ability the turn that it evolves.

Skarmory + Tool is always your ideal start. Use Sabrina to draw out low HP Pokemon like Magikarp, or to get Druddigon out of the Active Spot to keep your Skarmory healthy.

Skarmory's Fast Damage

Skarmory is able to deal 50 damage if it has a Tool attached thanks to its Metal Arms Attack. This lets it KO low HP Basics like Staryu and Exeggcute.

Magneton's Volt Charge

Magneton's Volt Charge makes it so it can load itself up with Energy to use when it evolves into Magnezone. This also allows you to set your Energy to Metal, while Magneton always gets Lightning Energy with this Ability.

Magnezone's Thunder Blast

Close out games with Magnezone's Thunder Blast, which is able to 2HKO most exs and low HP Basics. 110 is a very respectable number, especially because Magnezone is a single point Pokemon with 140 HP.
