Might be an obvious statement, but newer phones will outperform older ones even if they were brought brand new. Despite this, Pokemon TCG Pocket is not as taxing on so you can likely just use a phone that's at most 5 years old.

A huge reason for getting a new phone is to upgrade from your old one and run the latest games and apps. While that may be the case, try not to break your bank getting the most expensive one as mid-range phones can run Pokemon TCG Pocket just fine.
If you prefer your phone to have its own flair, try to go for Phones like the Nothing Phone or any of the Galaxy Z Flip Phones. If you do like to stay on Apple ecosystem with its easy to use interface, getting a cute case from the Pokemon Center Store is also an option.
While bigger items like tablets might be great for their battery-life and better specs, the accessibility of your account on the go should also be considered. You only ever open the game twice a day to open packs anyways, so get the one that suits your lifestyle better.
