Aerodactyl and Dragonite Deck Core Combos and Interactions

Disruption Finisher Description
Pokemon TCG Pocket - A1 210 AerodactylAerodactyl Pokemon TCG Pocket - A1 185 DragoniteDragonite ・Has access to Kangaskhan, which is great for setup decks.
・Aerodactyl can be disruptive, but also a win condition if your opponent does not run many basic Pokemon.
・Dragonite can finish games with a powerful Draco Meteor.

Best Starting Hand

Best Starting Hand

You would always ideally start out with Dratini and a possible Dragonair inhand for next turn. Kangaskhan, if available should always go into the Active Spot first to deal damage and tank while Dratini sets up. Bench Old Amber if it is available.

Other Good Starting Cards

Recommended Starting Hand

Use Professor's Research to dig for evolutions to improve your game state.

Aerodactyl is also effective at disrupting setups, but requires a little bit of luck in order to send the defending Pokemon back to your opponent's Deck.

Aerodactyl and Dragonite Deck Strategies

Aerodactyl and Dragonite Deck Strategies

Click the links above to jump to a certain section!

Strategy 1: Kangaskhan Early Game

Kangaskhan Early Game

Kangaskhan is the best starter for this deck as it can immediately put offensive pressure with its 1-Energy Dizzy Punch which can high roll for 60 damage. It can also take a good amount of damage thanks to its 100 HP. Keep Kangaskhan active for as long as you need until Dratini is set up into Dragonite

Use X Speed to get Dratini out of the Active Spot if you start with it. Be sure to bench your Old Amber for an Aerodactyl evolution in succeeding turns.

Strategy 2: Aerodactyl's Primal Wingbeat

Aerodactyl's Primal Wingbeat can disrupt but also serve as a win condition if your opponent does not have enough Pokemon in their deck. You can win a game by if your opponent has no Pokemon in play. This line of play is difficult, however, as it requires lucky Primal Wingbeat flips.

Strategy 3: Dragonite's Draco Meteor

Dragonite can win the game in one swing using its powerful Draco Meteor Attack. Focus on keeping Dratini and Dragonair safe until it has four Energy on it.

Game Phases

Early Game

Key Card(s) Required
Step Description
1 Bench Dratini and keep it safe, allot all Energy attachments to it. Bench Old Amber if it is available.
2 If Kangaskhan is available, attach an Energy to Kangaskhan while Dratini sets up on the Bench.

Mid-Game

Key Card(s) Required
Step Description
1 Evolve Dratini to Dragonair or get it to Dragonite quickly while playing defensively by retreating and using Sabrina when able.
2 Keep pressure with Kangaskhan and allow it to take damage for as long as it has to.
3 Use Aerodactyl's Primal Wingbeat to try and shuffle away your opponent's Active Pokemon.

Late Game

Key Card(s) Required
1 Use Potion to heal damage from your Aerodactyl or Dragonite and use Draco Meteor to deal damage to all of your opponent's Pokemon!

Aerodactyl and Dragonite Deck Best and Worst Matchups

Best Matchups

Deck Commentary

Mewtwo ex Decks
Type: Psychic

・May struggle to create offense early into a game.
・Slow speed may give Dratini enough time to set up into Dragonite and win with a Draco Meteor.

Worst Matchups

Deck Commentary

Pikachu ex Decks
Type: Lightning

・ Aerodactyl in the deck are weak to Lightning.
・ Can overrun our board with damage and eventually KO our Dratini before it is ready.

Overall Consistency

This deck may struggle to find the correct Energy from the Energy Zone at times, leading to awkward turns where you have to attach an Energy to something other than Dratini.

Aerodactyl is also dependent on lucky flips with Primal Wingbeat to be effective. Overall, while powerful, this deck needs a skilled and patient pilot in order for it to succeed.

Card Explanation

Farfetch'd
・ Farfetch'd can be slotted into the deck and work as a 1-Energy Attacker which can deal damage while Dratini is in the bench setting up. However it does not have much HP and can easily give up a point.

Aerodactyl and Dragonite Deck Other Viable Options

Card Possible Cuts

Weezing

・ A Weezing Line can replace the Aerodactyl and Red Card, but this would also necessitate the inclusion of Koga into the Deck.

Meowth

・ Meowth can help dig for evolutions using its Pay Day attack which allows you to go one card deep into your deck.

Druddigon

・Druddigon can replace Kangaskhan as a wall that does not need Energy attachments.

Leaf

・Leaf can help conserve your Energy, making your Energy attachments more meaningful.

oh and x speed at least one is a must lowkey highkey i mean i guess preference but i think it provides a lot of needed consistency

I'm really surprised no mention of Tauros anywhere not even in alternative! I created and ran this deck myself (before seeing it online) but I ended up taking out the Aeradactyls and Kanghaskan and Farfetchd for Tauros. One more energy but no coin flip and 20 damage on average more but one less retreat cost and doesnt get one shot to the same extent farfetched does, which if he does get feinted is usually a loss anyways. That or farfetchd + red card (for their giovani)
