Pokemon types are an integral part of Pokemon games, and are also an important part of Pokemon Trading Card Game Pocket (PTCG Pocket). Read on to learn all about types and how they affect gameplay!
List of Contents
Pokemon are assigned types, which are seen as a Pokemon's identity. In the image above, Venusaur is designated a Grass typing. This affects the type of damage it deals, dealing neutral damage to Pokemon who are not weak to it, and an increased +20 to Pokemon who are Grass-weak.

Fire-type Pokemon are often offensively oriented, and would usually have attacks that involve discarding Energy.
Fighting-type Pokemon in the TCG include Fighting-types in the mainline video games, as well as Ground and Rock-types. These Pokemon often have expensive Retreat Costs.
Lightning-type in the Pokemon TCG are Electric-types in the video games. These Pokemon will usually have inexpensive Attack costs and low Retreat Costs.
Water-type in the TCG covers Water and Ice-types. These Pokemon will usually have Attacks that can be amplified with additional Energy attachments.
Grass and Bug-type Pokemon in the games will fall under Grass in the TCG. These Pokemon will often have HP recovery or be able to inflict Status on opponents.
Ghost, Fairy, and Psychic-type Pokemon will fall under Psychic in the TCG. These Pokemon have strange and interesting effects with their Attacks!
Metal-type Pokemon are defense-oriented and will often be hard to KO!
Poison and Dark-type Pokemon are categorized under Darkness in the TCG. These Pokemon are usually tricky, being able to inflict status, or deal big damage!
Colorless Pokemon in the TCG consist of Normal and Flying Pokemon. These Pokemon are easily splashable into any deck and can be useful when deckbuilding.
Dragon-types are powerful, but come with a downside of having complicated attack costs. These Pokemon also do not have Weaknesses.
Damaging a Pokemon for Weakness will result in an additional +20 damage, as opposed to the traditional 2x Damage in the TCG.
This means Weakness may not be as big a factor in the Pokemon TCG Pocket Meta in comparison to other formats!
Battles in Pokemon TCG Pocket notably lacks Energy Cards, but will feature a new Energy Zone which automatically generates Energy once per turn. Energy that the Energy Zone generates is determined by the Pokemon in your deck's types!
