Use Quick and Powerful Water Pokemon

You will want to use fast Water-type Pokemon to counter the Mega Charizard Y ex deck. While Mega Charizard Y ex has a powerful attack, it is a 3-evolution card with a high energy cost, which makes it slow to set up. You will want to take advantage of the slow set-up with Water-type Pokemon with a low attack cost like Suicune ex or Starmie ex.

Target Charmander or Charmeleon Before They Evolve

Mega Charizard Y ex can easily OHKO almost every Pokemon, so you will want to target the Pokemon under its evolution line, Charmander and Charmeleon, before they have the chance to evolve.

This deck has Pheromosa as an early-game attacker, being able to damage both Active Pokemon and Benched Pokemon. Once Decidueye ex is set up, it can attack the Pokemon that Pheromosa has damaged with Pierce the Pain.

The deck gains access to Hau, which can boost Decidueye ex's damage. Do note that this can only increase the damage of Razor Leaf, and Pierce the Pain if it is damaging the Active Pokemon.

While Clawitzer is in the Active Spot, build Mega Blastoise ex in the bench. When Triple Bombardment is ready, you can switch Mega Blastoise ex in and deal the finishing blow to your opponents.
