Charizard ex is a Stage 2 that benefits from Rare Candy, which greatly speeds up its setup. It can evolve from Charmander, then immediately use Stoke and position itself for a sweep. It no longer needs Moltres ex to set up, as it can set up and attack earlier and quicker thanks to Rare Candy.
This version runs a copy of Genetic Apex Charizard to help in matchups against Pom-Pom Oricorio, which Charizard ex cannot damage.

This deck list follows a more standard Fire-type Deck build with Moltres ex as your ideal starter, and makes use of new cards like Lillie and Rare Candy.
You also have the option between two Charizard exs, with one from Shining Revelry, and the other from Genetic Apex, both of which have their own strengths and limitations. Shining Revelry Charizard ex does not require you to discard Energy but caps out at 150 and costs 5, whereas Genetic Apex Charizard ex can do 200 and has the downside of discarding 2 Fire Energy.
This version runs a copy of Genetic Apex Charizard to help in matchups against Pom-Pom Oricorio, which Charizard ex cannot damage.

A clearly inferior version of Charizard ex, Charizard from Genetic Apex is a single-point alternative to its ex counterpart. Moltres ex can accelerate Energy onto it and have it ready in just a few turns.
This deck is an easier to build, but less powerful iteration of Charizard ex. Consider trying this fun deck in Random Matches,
| Expansions | Cards to Get and Packs to Open |
|---|---|
| Genetic Apex (A1) | Charizard x 2 (Charizard Pack) Moltres ex x 2 (Charizard Pack) |
| Mythical Island (A1a) | No cards needed from this expansion. |
| Spacetime Smackdown (A2) | Pokemon Communication x 1 (Dialga Pack) Giant Cape x 1 (Dialga Pack) Dawn x 2 (Dialga Pack) |
| Triumphant Light (A2a) | No cards needed from this expansion. |
| Shining Revelry (A2b) | Charmander x 2 (Shiny Charizard Pack) Charmeleon x 2 (Shiny Charizard Pack) |
| Celestial Guardians | Rare Candy x 2 (Any Pack) |
| Extradimensional Crisis | No cards needed from this expansion. |
| Eevee Grove | No cards needed from this expansion. |
| Wisdom of Sky and Sea | No cards needed from this expansion. |
| Secluded Springs | No cards needed from this expansion. |
| Mega Rising | No cards needed from this expansion. |
| Promo-A | X Speed x 2 (Promo-A Pack) Poke Ball x 2 (Promo-A Pack) Professor's Research x 2 (Promo-A Pack) |

Rare Candy can allow Charizard to be set up as early as your second turn.

Moltres ex is vital for Charizard's set up. Starting with it is always ideal. Make use of switching options like Leaf to get a vulnerable Charmander out of the Active Spot for Moltres ex.

Moltres ex runs the chance of flipping poorly on Inferno Dance turns. While lucky heads flips can often mean a large momentum swing in your favor, an unlucky tails flip means an unproductive Attack was used for our turn.
