Charizard Deck Best and Worst Matchups

Best Matchups

Deck Commentary

Venusaur Decks
Type: Grass

・Can trade damage favorably because of its type advantage over Grass.

Worst Matchups

Deck Commentary

Starmie ex Decks
Type: Water

・Can quickly outspeed Moltres ex's setup and eventually get to your Benched Charmanders

Pikachu ex Decks
Type: Lightning

・Can quickly outspeed Moltres ex's setup by hitting it for super-effective damage, and eventually get to your Benched Charmanders

Overall Consistency

This deck functions like a sub-optimal version of the Charizard ex deck.

Charizard can deal a massive 150 damage with Fire Spin, however one of Charizard ex's strengths is that it does not get OHKOd by Mewtwo's Psydrive due to its higher HP. Consider building Charizard ex once you have access to it, and cut non-ex Charizard completely.

Card Possible Cuts

Charizard ex

・ Charizard ex is the best partner for Moltres ex, being able to take full advantage of Moltres ex's ramp, and removing the need for Giovanni. Consider cutting Charizard for its superior ex counterpart.

Card Possible Cuts

Old Amber

・ Old Amber eliminates unwanted Meowth starts, but also cuts Meowth's Pay Day draw support. Try using Old Amber to buy you a turn when needed. Do remember that KOing Fossils will result in 1 point.

No other card does what Moltres ex does for Fire decks and the value it gives them. Having just 1 will put you at a disadvantage, but it is better than none.

The Trainers suite remains the same as the regular build, as these are all useful and essential, with Red Card being the tech card of choice.
