This page explains evolution in Pokemon Trading Card Game Pocket (PTCG Pocket). Read on to learn more about how to evolve your Pokemon Cards and what evolution can do!
List of Contents

You need to have a pre-evolved Pokemon or a Fossil Item Card in play for at least one turn before they are able to evolve. Players are able to evolve their Pokemon from the second turn onwards, which means players who go first can evolve their Pokemon earlier.
While you can evolve multiple Pokemon per turn, each of these Pokemon can only evolve once until the next turn. This means if you evolve a Basic Pokemon into a Stage 1 Pokemon in one turn, you cannot evolve it into a Stage 2 Pokemon in the same turn.
Is it Better to Go First or Second?

You can check what Basic or Stage 1 Pokemon you need to use your evolved Pokemon by checking the upper left portion of its card. Alternatively, you can check the Pokemon's Related Cards in the Card Dex.
Pokemon can only evolve from their designated pre-evolutions, but you can use any variant of the Pokemon as long as they have the same name. For example, Mythical Island Rapidash is able to evolve from both Genetic Apex Ponyta and Mythical Island Ponyta.

The player needs to take an evolved Pokemon from their hand and drag it over to where the pre-evolved Pokemon is on the field. The Pokemon will then evolve. Both Active Pokemon and Benched Pokemon are able to evolve.
| Pokemon | Can Evolve From | Cannot Evolve From |

Both ex and non-ex cards that feature the same Pokemon tend to share the same pre-evolution. However, as of now, ex Pokemon cannot evolve, even if their non-ex counterparts can.
Basic Pokemon that have evolutions tend to have lower bulk and strength. Evolving to the next stage may give them more HP, better moves, and sometimes even useful Abilities.

How fast you can evolve your Pokemon can often depend on what cards you have on hand. For faster evolution, it may be a good idea to add Item and Supporter Cards that add more cards to your hand or reshuffle your deck.
If your Active Pokemon is afflicted with a Status Effect like Poison or Burn, you can heal it by evolving that Pokemon.
Other conditions that can be caused by your opponent's moves, such as Weezing's Smokescreen requiring the defending Pokemon to flip a coin successfully to use its move on the next turn, may also be negated.
