Best Starting Hand

Best Starting Hand

Having both Mew ex and Koffing in your starting hand can increase your chances of winning early. Both Weezing and Mew have Koga and Budding Expeditioner respectively, which can return them to your hand and remove any damage they may have accrued.

Other Good Starting Cards

Recommended Starting Hand

You can also stall with Koffing and Weezing should you end up having less essential cards in hand, make use of your Trainer Cards such as Professor's Research to draw into one.

Mew ex and Weezing Deck Strategies

Mew ex and Weezing Deck Strategies

Click the links above to jump to a certain section!

Strategy 1: Weezing's Gas Leak

Weezing's Gas Leak

The first strategy is to have Weezing tank damage while continuously attacking and chipping away at a Poisoned opponent. Mew ex will be Benched for now until it's ready to attack.

Strategy 2: Mew ex's Genome Hacking

When Mew ex is ready, get Weezing out of the Active Spot.

You can do this easily with the help of Koga. By doing this, Weezing will not lose all damage dealt to it, but you can also have it set up once more on the field.

Darkness is preferred in this deck as Genome Hacking can copy Mewtwo ex's Psydrive or Charizard ex's Crimson Storm which will require you to drop two Psychic and Fire energy respectively. By using Dark Energy, you can bypass this condition and still be able to deal huge damage with those Attacks.

It is also worth noting that Celebi ex's Powerful Bloom counts the number of Energy, and not specifically Grass Energy. Mew ex with three Energy on it will be able to flip thrice when it copies Powerful Bloom.

Game Phases

Early Game

Key Card(s) Required
Step Description
1 Set up the board by having Koffing as your Active Pokemon, while asigning all Energy attachments to Mew ex in the Bench.
2 You can use Trainer Cards such as Professor's Research and Poke Ball to find essential cards for your strategy.

Mid-Game

Key Card(s) Required
Step Description
1 Koffing can now evolve into Weezing, allowing it to activate its Gas Leak Ability to inflict Poison on your opponent’s Active Pokemon. This pressures the opponent to switch or spend Energy to retreat in order to remove the Poison condition.
2 Heal your Weezing with Potion if necessary since it might have received some damage from previous turns.

Late Game

Key Card(s) Required
1 Once your Mew ex has enough energy to use Genome Hacking, you can switch it in to inflict even more damage.
2 Use either Koga or Budding Expeditioner to scoop up Weezing or Mew ex back into your hand. If your opponent's Active Pokemon is newly switched in, be sure to activate Weezing's Gas Leak ability before scooping it.

Mew ex and Weezing Deck Best and Worst Matchups

Best Matchups

Deck Commentary

Mewtwo ex Decks
Type: Psychic

・Due to Mewtwo's steep four Energy requirement and reliance on trying to build a board with Gardevoir, Mew ex can fire off Psydrive earlier while ignoring its Energy discard condition.
・Weezing can disrupt your opponent from building resources, by forcing them to switch around their Active and Benched Pokemon due to Poison and super-effective damage.

Worst Matchups

Deck Commentary

Fighting Decks
Type: Fighting

・Since Weezing will be your tank and will be your Active Pokemon in the early game, Fighting-type decks can put you into a disadvantage due to their type advantage. Use Mew ex to offset this disadvantage.

Pikachu ex Decks
Type: Lightning

・Mew ex will not be as effective in this matchup as it runs no Lightning-type Pokemon to power up Circle Circuit.
・Lightning decks like to swap around their Active and Benched Pokemon plus their Energy with Lt. Surge making the Poison strategy less effective.

Overall Consistency

This deck functions similarly to the Mewtwo ex and Weezing deck which pressures your opponent to frequently switch their Active Pokemon to remove the Poison status.

Mew ex also relies heavily on what attacker your opponents will bring, giving varying levels of reliability. This deck is best used against Pokemon like Mewtwo ex, Charizard ex, and other cards with the high energy cost, high-damage attacks.
It also stands a chance to KO Celebi ex with three flips when Genome Hacking copies Powerful Bloom.

An exception to this would be any variant of a Pikachu ex deck since Mew ex cannot fulfill Circle Circuit's Bench requirement.

Card Explanation

Gardevoir
・ You can replace the entire Weezing evolution line with a Gardevoir evolution line. It's ability Psy Shadow can help ramp up Mew ex's energy.
・ The strategy will be reminiscent to that of the Mewtwo ex and Gardevoir Deck where Mewtwo ex will now be your tank and primary attacker while Gardevoir sets up at the bench.

Card Possible Cuts

・You can swap out Mew ex with a Tauros if you don't have the former.
・Tauros is a solid single-point attacker that has the same Energy requirement as Mew ex.

Wigglytuff ex

・You can slot in a 1-1 Wigglytuff ex and Promo Jigglypuff in place of 1 Sabrina and 1 Red Card.
・Wigglytuff is another Colorless Pokemon with a Colorless Energy requirement.
