With the help of Copycat, May, and Quick-Grow Extract, it is possible to have Mega Venusaur ex up by your third turn in the game.
Use Copycat to refresh your hand if you do not have the needed cards in-hand. May can help filter your hand's Pokemon and find what you need. You may also use Quick-Grow Extract to evolve into your Mega Venusaur ex earlier.
Make sure to use your Supporter cards strategically. Be careful not to reshuffle cards that are needed for your setup. Make use of your resources before using cards that will reshuffle your hand into your deck.

Leafeon ex is used as an early-game attacker and an Energy accelerator. With Mega Rising Eevee in the deck, it can evolve as soon as possible and generate Energy for both itself and Mega Venusaur ex.
Mega Venusaur ex can be brought to the Active Spot once it has enough Energy to use Critical Bloom. It can wall attacks with its high HP, as well as inflict both Poison and Sleep.
The non-ex Leafeon in the deck may be used to counter Pom-Pom Oricorio.

Mega Venusaur ex has a high Attack Cost. It is best to use cards that can generate Grass Energy in order to set it up faster.
Leafeon ex is a good option, as it can evolve right away if you are using Mega Rising Eevee.

Mega Venusaur ex boasts high HP, which makes it have great survivability. You may heal or increase its HP in order to make it harder to KO.

You may use Fire-type Pokemon with strong attacks in order to counter Mega Venusaur ex. Shining Revelry Charizard ex and Mega Blaziken ex have fairly fast setups, which means that they can attack before their opponents have enough Energy.
Alternatively, you may use Mega Charizard Y to aim for the OHKO. You may pair it with Moltres ex in order to accelerate its Energy.

You may draw Bulbasaur out from the Bench using Sabrina or Cyrus and knock it out. This will prevent it from evolving, meaning that you will not have to deal with Mega Venusaur ex's high bulk.

You may prevent Mega Venusaur ex from attacking by discarding its Energy. Because of its high Attack Cost, it may take a while before it can gain back the Energy it will lose.
