Chien-Pao ex is played with Baxcalibur in this deck. The deck's main objective is to accelerate Energy to Chien-Pao ex and KO threats before they are able to set up.
Chien-Pao ex in particular has a low HP of 130, so Giant Cape and Starting Plains are needed to give it extra staying power.

Chien-Pao ex's partner in this deck is Genetic Apex's Greninja. Greninja can pile on damage and put Pokemon into Chien-Pao ex's KO range.
Greninja ex works as an alternate attacker for when you need to reliably deal 100 damage to an Active Pokemon without having to commit to discarding Energy.
| Expansions | Cards to Get and Packs to Open |

| Genetic Apex (A1) | Greninja x 2 (Charizard Pack) Misty x 2 (Pikachu Pack) |

| Paldean Wonders | Chien-Pao ex x 2 (Paldea Pack) |
| Promo-A | Poke Ball x 2 (Promo-A Pack) Professor's Research x 2 (Promo-A Pack) |

Chien-Pao ex's main strength is its ability to deal 130 damage anywhere on the field with Diving Icicles. While it has the drawback of having to discard all your Water Energy, its strength outweighs this downside.
The ability to neutralize a Pokemon before Mega evolves and becomes a problem is highly valuable.

Since Chien-Pao ex is a Water-type Misty and Mantyke naturally synergize with it. Opening with either of these two cards can quickly swing the momentum in your favor.

It is important that you prioritize setting up Greninja using the deck's options like Professor's Research and Copycat.
Use Greninja as a quick sniping option, and use Greninja ex as an alternative attacker.

Although it is capable of powerful offense, Chien-Pao ex has low enough HP that it's easy for Metal-types to KO.
Gholdengo ex's Spending Rush can knock out Chien-Pao ex and a lower HP Basic Pokemon if it has enough Energy to dish out its offense.
