Primary Attacker | Status Inducer | Description |
---|---|---|
Venusaur ex | Weezing |
・Venusaur ex can deal significant damage with Giant Bloom while also healing itself per attack. ・Weezing can inflict Poison using Gas Leak while attacking with Tackle. |
Best Starting Hand |
---|
Having both Bulbasaur and Koffing in your starting hand can increase your chances of winning early.
Have Koffing, which will eventually evolve into Weezing, as your active Pokemon and provide energy for Bulbasaur at the bench and evolve it to Venusaur ex.
Recommended Starting Hand |
---|
Should you end up having less essential cards at hand, make use of your Trainer Cards such as Poke Ball or Professor's Research to draw into one.
Venusaur ex and Weezing Deck Strategies | |||
---|---|---|---|
|

Weezing's Gas Leak | ||
---|---|---|
The first strategy is to have Weezing tank damage while continually attacking and dealing Poison damage with its Gas Leak ability. Bulbasaur will be on the bench for now, evolving into Venusaur ex and building up enough energy until it's able to be switched as your active Pokemon.
You can use Trainer Cards such as Professor's Research and Poke Ball if you are missing a few essential cards for your strategy.
The second phase of the strategy is to switch out Venusaur ex to Weezing and become the new Active Pokemon.
You can do this easily with the help of Koga. By doing this, Weezing will not only recover HP, but you can also have it set up once more on the field.
Key Card(s) Required | |
---|---|
Step | Description |
1 | Set up the board by having Koffing be the Active Pokemon, while Bulbasaur evolves into Venusaur ex and builds up enough energy at the bench. |
2 | You can use Trainer Cards such as Professor's Research and Poke Ball if you are missing a few essential cards for your strategy. |
Key Card(s) Required | |
---|---|
Step | Description |
1 | Koffing now evolves into Weezing, allowing it to activate its Gas Leak ability to inflict Poison on your opponent’s Active Pokémon. This pressures the opponent to switch or spend energy to retreat in order to remove the Poison status. |
2 | Heal your Weezing with Potion if necessary since it might have received some damage from tanking. |
3 | At the same time, your Bulbasaur should now be evolved as well into Ivysaur. |
Key Card(s) Required | |
---|---|
1 | Once your Ivysaur has evolved into Venusaur ex and has enough energy to use Giant Bloom, you can switch it up with Weezing and inflict even more lethal damage. |
2 | Use Koga to scoop Weezing back into your hand. If your opponent's Active Pokemon is newly switched in, be sure to activate Weezing's Gas Leak ability before retrieving it. |
Deck | Commentary |
---|---|
Pikachu ex Decks |
・Pikachu ex will struggle to take KOs on Venusaur ex and will have to rely heavily on its setup speed. ・ Venusaur ex trades damage favorably. |
Deck | Commentary |
---|---|
Charizard ex Decks |
・Venusaur ex is weak to Fire-type decks such as Charizard ex decks. ・A Charizard ex can OHKO a Venusaur ex which only has 190 HP. |
Machamp ex Decks |
・Since Weezing will be your tank and will be your Active Pokemon in the early game, Fighting-type decks can put you into a disadvantage due to their type advantage. ・You can counter this by immediately having Venusar ex be your Active Pokemon and use Razor Leaf to dish out damage. |
Blaine Decks |
・Blaine Decks thrive on speed and power, which can hit Weezing with a OHKO. ・This deck mostly uses Fire-type Pokemon and will render Venusaur ex weak against it. |
This deck functions by pressuring your opponent to frequently switch their Active Pokemon to remove the Poison status.
Meanwhile, you build up Venusaur ex in the bench and provide it's energy until it can unleash lethal damage, setting up for a powerful knockout.
Card | Explanation |
---|---|
Muk |
・ You can replace the entire Weezing evolution line with a Muk evolution line. It has more HP, to stay on the field longer. ・ Grimer can inflict Poison status immediately without the need to evolve. ・ Muk can deal an additional 50 damage to a Poisoned Pokemon. ・ Can also be scooped up by Koga. |
Card | Possible Cuts |
---|---|
Farfetch'd |
・ You can swap out a Sabrina for a Farfetch'd to add an aditional attacker that doesn't require evolution. ・ Can immediately exert pressure at minimal cost while Venusaur ex sets up on the Bench. ・Since switching Pokemon from Active to Benched removes the Poison status, Sabrina may become less effective during the late-game setup. |
