To begin the Chalk Prince and the Dragon event, you first need to finish Albedo's Story Quest Traveler Observation Report.

After your journey up Dragonspine, you and Paimon prepare to head back to the aadventurer camp in the foothills to have a look.

It is highly recommended to bring a Pyro character while adventuring and exploring Dragonspine. Most of the enemies you will encounter in this area has the Cryo element.
Equipping and using the Festering Desire during any of the battles is optional, so there's no need to bring out any of your Sword characters!
After completing the Festering Desire quest, you'll unlock the first act of the The Chalk Prince and the Dragon event.
You can earn rewards by exploring Dragonspine and collecting Rime-Worn Fragments and Rime-Worn Crystals.

During the quest, Albedo will also give you the Festering Desire sword. A powerful cursed sword that is effective in the Dragonspine area.

I personally went for Barbara instead. DPS wise she ain't the best but her heals more than make up for it. Especially since they constantly apply Hydro to enemies around you, and you can spam Diluc's Skill for all your Vaporizing needs. So far, it's worked out just fine for me
