Mare Jivari is a wasteland once located west of Natlan mentioned in Genshin Impact. See all we know about Mare Jivari, including in-game information and how to get to it during the world quest!

In Venti's Story Quest, the Mare Jivari is described as a place with not a wisp of wind and contained a sea of ashes. Stanley's friend was one of the many adventurers who had traveled to the Mare Jivari only to meet their end.
During the Iktomi Spiritseeking Scrolls event, Citlali said that the Mare Jivari was reduced to a desolate wasteland around 500 years ago. The area is supposedly hard to travel to, and little to no life existed there.
In Kinich's story quest, Kinich's Deal, he mentioned that Enjou was also looking for information on the Mare Jivari, alluding to his interests in desolate lands similar to Enkanomiya.
In Version 5.8, the quest The Last Survivor of Tenochtzitoc revealed Enjou's intention to explore Mare Jivari himself.

In the Night-Wind Letter event quest, Citlali mentioned that the Battle of the Mare Jivari happened 500 years ago, between the tribal coallition leader Tenoch, along with his comrades, and the creatures of the Abyss.
This battle was also what caused the Mare Jivari to gain its name, after Sanhaj summoned a miniature Night Kingdom to defeat their enemies at the time.

The Lavawalker artifact set contains legends of the Lavawalker sage who walked through the Mare Jivari, and even encountering a bird that sings amidst burning flames that are said to exist there.
This aligns with what Citlali said about Mare Jivari, saying that sometimes the land is engulfed in towering flames that drown out the cries heard from the area.

Despite being a wasteland, sightings of different creatures in the Mare Jivari have been mentioned throughout the game.
There is the singing bird in flames from the Lavawalker set, an enormous, dark creature the size of a mountain mentioned by Citlali, which also seems to be the immortal monster that Albedo mentioned during the Interlude Chapter Act 4 archon quest.

In the quest, The Last Survivor of Tenochtzitoc, it was revealed that the Asha only appeared soon after the Mare Jivari disappeared 20 years ago. Their names have dual meanings, ''benevolent soul'' and ''ashes.''
The ''ashes'' is a reference to the fact that those who had died in Mare Jivari had turned to ashes, their souls left behind and trapped. It is now believed that the Asha are monetoo with a soul that came from those who perished in Mare Jivari.

During the 5.8 Livestream, a huge creature named Bakunawa can be seen, which the Traveler encountered when entering the land of Mare Jivare. It's mentioned that this is one of Rhinedottir's creation that is capable of infinite regrowth and cannot be truly killed.
In the past, the hero Tenoch sacrificed himself so that Sanhaj can summon a miniature Night Kingdom inside the Bakunawa's stomach, tearing it apart. During The Last Survivor of Tenochtzitoc, the Traveler had to defeat the Bakunawa again to interrupt its regrowth.

The Last Survivor of Tenochtzitoc quest revealed that previous Pyro Archons and heroes of Natlan had to place seals on the Mare Jivari and stop the Bakunawa from completely regenerating.

Citlali revealed in the Vision of Ashen Desolation event quest that Mare Jivari completely disappeared some 20 years prior. Before it disappeared, it was located at the westernmost part of Natlan, far from any of the tribes.
The current Natlan map indicates the Mare Jivari was separated from the rest of Natlan by a body of water.
Natlan Interactive Map and Location

In The Last Survivor of Tenochtzitoc, the NPC Pucli revealed that Mare Jivari was once located to the west of Tenochtzitoc, proving it was even further from the main Natlan areas than previously hinted at.
The map revealed during the Vision of Ashen Desolation quest matched Tenochtzitoc's map rather than Mare Jivari, hinting that Tenochtzitoc is instead what remained after Mare Jivari disappeared.

During The Last Survivor of Tenochtzitoc, you can explore a tiny section of Mare Jivari and even fight the Bakunawa within. Another quest that takes you to the Mare Jivari is The Surprise That Awaits Us All, which allows you to see the area consumed in scorching flames.
Currently, there is no means to freely access and explore Mare Jivari outside of the quest domain, and we can only catch a glimpse of it during The Last Survivor of Tenochtzitoc and The Surprise That Awaits Us All world quests.
