Phlogiston in Genshin Impact is a unique and abundant substance all over Natlan that comes in many forms. See all the forms of Phlogiston, what Liquid Phlogiston Zones are, how the Saurians use Phlogistons, and all info about them here in this guide!
List of Contents
Phlogiston is a new mechanic added in Version 5.0 that can be found all over Natlan and can be used to interact with regional features, like those associated with overworld puzzles and time challenges.
Saurians need Phlogiston to utilize some of their unique abilities. For example, Tepetlisaurs continuously consume Phlogiston to move underground quickly while Yumkasaurs use it to grab and throw objects from a distance.
After "indwelling" into a Saurian, a Phlogiston meter—similar to the Traveler's stamina bar—will appear next to the Saurian whenever they use their unique skills. As mentioned before, the meter depletes every time you use these Saurian abilities.
When Saurian's gauge gets depleted it will then proceed to deplete the Phlogiston reserves of the Traveler, shown as the gauge above the HP bar. This means you have essentially two gauges to work with if you're using a Saurian.
Phlogiston comes in many forms, such as solid, liquid, and sometimes can be found inside a fruit. For example, Tepetlisauri uses Phlogiston to freely and swiftly move underground, while the Koholasauri use it to move around Liquid Phlogiston Zones.
In a more interesting situation, Phlogiston can also be found inside fruits, such in the case of Yumkasauri, where they can grapple a Phlogiston-rich fruit and have it react with their Flamegranate Pectin to spit out explosive bombs!
Phlogiston is an abundant substance characterized as an advanced form of the Pyro element in Natlan that helps citizens and Saurians alike in their day-to-day lives. Saurians primarily use Phlogiston alongside their natural-born skills to help Natlan residents!
The main way to charge and get Phlogiston is to approach various Phlogiston sources scattered all over the map of Natlan. There are various ways to get them but generally, it is used to charge both Saurian and the character's gauge.
Interact with the Seeds seated on a circular statue one time, then approach its immediate vicinity to charge your Phlogiston. You will have to activate them again after some time though, so it's not a one-time activation thing.
Simply approach the particles to charge Phlogiston. A Flaming Seed of Phlogiston can also appear which will provide three (3) particles instead of the usual one (1).
Another way to get particles is to interact with Phlogiston-infused fruits. The fruits that provide Phlogiston usually have an orange glow in them, so you know which fruits to get.
Fruit | How to Get |
---|---|
Candle Mushrooms |
Approach the fruit and gather. Provides 1 Phlogiston particle each. |
Flamegranates |
Hit with any Pyro-related attacks. Yumkasaurus' spitting move can also make Flamegranates explode. Be careful as the explosions deal damage! |
Unique creates in Natlan like the Crystal Beetle and Pyro Crystalflies are a good source of particles as well!
Natlan is also littered by rock piles infused with Phlogiston, so destroy them to get additional particles. Explosive Barrels with crystals also exists, but be careful as they can explode and do damage to your characters.
When using a Saurian, another option to fill up your Phlogiston gauge is to indwell another Saurian. When assuming control over a new creature, it will have a fresh Phlogiston gauge - useful for when you have depleted your current Saurian's.
