Underwater diving and combat is an exploration mechanic in the region of Fontaine in Genshin Impact 4.0. Here we will explain the mechanics of diving and how you can unlock it in this guide!

How to Unlock Underwater Diving

Attune to a Statue of the Seven in Fontaine

To unlock diving, attune to any of the Statue of the Seven in Fontaine. It will also give you Fontaine's Blessings, which gives you the abilty to interact with underwater objects.

You can also unlock Hydro Traveler by doing this, but you will need the Traveler in your party!

Depending on your settings and device you're using, the following are the default keyboard and controller mapping to explore the underwater areas of Fontaine!

Underwater Exploration Update

Diving is a unique feature in Fontaine where you can dive underwater to further explore the region! Luckily, you can also use all of your characters underwater, not just those from Fontaine, or the main Traveler!

Underwater Combat

With the Transoceanic Sourcewater blessing, Travelers can also perform Underwater Combat in Fontaine. However, keep in mind that Elemental Skills are replaced by whichever ability you borrowed from the Aberrants, and that bursts are disabled by default.

Having said that, underwater combat doesn't pale in comparison to land combat, as this mechanic introduces a fresher take on how to battle enemies in Teyvat!

Has A Different Stamina Bar

Diving underwater in Fontaine doesn't use up the Stamina Bar for land exploration, but it instead has its own Aquatic Stamina Bar that only gets used up when players sprint underwater!

Borrow Abilities of Xenochromatic Creatures

When you're unable to solve a puzzle with your current abilities, you can borrow the abilities of any Xenochromatic Creatures that may be lurking nearby.

Use Recovery Orbs to Restore Stamina and HP

Since the Aquatic Stamina Bar gets used up each time you sprint underwater, you can collect Recovery Orbs that look like Schools of Fish to replenish Aquatic Stamina and HP!

Lets You Use Fontaine's Currents

The Diving Mechanic also lets you use Fontaine's Currents to further help you navigating the waters of the nation by propelling you towards the direction it's facing!

Resist High-Pressure Water Vents

While exploring underwater, you may encounter High-Pressure Water Vents. Currents may suddenly appear from these vents so you can borrow the Armored Crab Shield ability from Armored Crabs to resist a current.

Solve Puzzles Underwater

While underwater, you can collect something from the underwater creatures called Fontemer Aberrants by aiming at them. Afterward, you will gain something like a water sigil you can use to open chests locked behind a marine plant and other puzzle mechanisms!

You can only dive in Fontaine

No, you cannot dive in any other regions other than Fontaine. It is an exclusive mechanic for that map.
