On the third marker you investigate you will be attacked by 2 Geovishap Hatchlings. Defeat them to continue the quest.

Talk to the little girl near the tree.

While fighting the Geovishap Hatchlings, they will leave 2 Geo Shards when they burrow. Pick it up to gain a shield that can knock them back when they attack, which in turn gives you an opening to attack when they are knocked down.
