Team Building in Genshin Impact requires knowledge of the Elemental Reactions that best fits a certain fight. See how you can form teams in this basic party building guide!
List of Contents

Team Building in Genshin Impact mainly revolves around choosing the appropriate Elements to create Elemental Reactions, or the mixing of at least two of such types to cause various offensive effects.
As characters apply these elements, one must learn what each Elemental Reactions do as the interactions between elements will dictate what you'll need in a certain fight.

Some enemies require specific Elements or Elemental Reactions to best deal with them. Hydro Hypostasis for example requires Elements that can make use of its permanent Hydro status, like Pyro, Dendro, Electro, or Cryo.
Most enemies are also resistant to one or multiple Elements, so choosing a team comp that doesn't involve resisted Elements are best to bring in a fight. Read the hints about each enemies before deciding on your party!

A prototypical team in Genshin Impact comprises of a Main DPS, or the on-field carry, a Sub-DPS or the damage dealer who applies the Elements while off the field, and the Support who can either sustain or buff your team.
Once you have at least three of these checked, your final slot will comprise of another Support or Sub-DPS depending on the needs of your team.

| Role |
・Your carry DPS who will stay on-field for a long duration of time. ・Often the main source of damage for the team. ・Infuses their weapon with their assigned Element for their Normal Attacks. ・Triggers the Elemental Reactions set up by your supports. |
|---|
When building a team, most of the time it is best to start with the Main DPS and build around them. As the element of your Main DPS dictates what type of Supports you will need, focus on what type of Elemental Reactions you will want for a fight.

・Off-field damage dealers. ・Sets up Elemental Reactions for the Main DPS. ・Effects of Skills or Bursts stay on the field even after switching out. |
|---|
Once the Main DPS has been selected, it's time to choose one or two Sub-DPS for your team. The role of the Sub-DPS is to set up Elemental Reactions for the Main DPS while being off the field. They are often the most important piece of the puzzle as they begin the fight for you.
You will want to choose a Sub-DPS that best fits the Element of your carry. If your DPS is a Pyro character, chances are that they synergize well with either Hydro or Cryo, as Vaporize and Melt are powerful carry reactions.

| Role |
・Increases survivability of the team with heals and shields. ・Increases overall damage by providing buffs and/or debuffs. |
|---|
Complete your team by filling in the slots for a Support character, who can either buff, debuff, or sustain. They will be in charge of keeping your team alive, or providing additional combat buffs or debuffs to make the job of the Main DPS easier.
They are often the most important units to have in Endgame as these content rely on fast clear speed, which supports typically accelerate.

Elemental Resonance grants additional buffs based on the number of party members of a particular element. For example, two Pyro Characters will grant an additional ATK% buff to your entire party.
These buffs can help push a party's damage and synergy potentials to even greater heights and should also be considered when selecting the last characters for a party.
