Pokémon Day February 2026 | What to Expect

The celebration for Pokémon’s 30th anniversary is already well underway, as the company has spent the last few weeks rolling out several announcements. One of the surprises so far are the first-ever official LEGO Pokémon sets, featuring massive brick-built versions of icons like Pikachu, Eevee, and the evolved forms of the three Kanto starters.
Alongside this, a year-long campaign titled "What’s Your Favorite Pokémon?" has launched accordingly with a high-profile Super Bowl commercial. This includes a new snapshot feature in Pokémon GO that lets players share their favorite Pokémon.
This was continued just last week with the digital release for fans of the classics. Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen, the Game Boy Advance remakes of the original Kanto games, have officially launched on the Nintendo eShop. This is the first time these specific titles have been available on a modern console. They weren't even available on the Virtual Console, which was Nintendo’s previous digital storefront that allowed players to purchase and play legacy titles from older systems on the Wii, Wii U, and 3DS.

However, if previous Pokémon Day presentations are any indication, these reveals are likely just the beginning. Even though the LEGO sets and digital ports have already given fans plenty to do, the actual Pokémon Day broadcast is where the most significant future projects are typically unveiled.
Whatever is in store for Trainers for Pokémon’s 30th anniversary, they’ll find out this coming Friday.
Expectations are High for Pokémon Gen 10

The 10th generation of Pokémon is easily the announcement that fans are most anxious to see. Nothing is official yet, but the community has good reason to believe a reveal is imminent. This year is a major milestone for the series, and there is a growing sense that the 9th Generation—which began with Pokémon Scarlet and Violet—is reaching its natural conclusion. Historically, the franchise operates on a fairly predictable cycle, and the timing for a brand-new generation has rarely been this perfect.
If we look at patterns from the last several years, the evidence for a Gen 10 reveal becomes even stronger. Pokémon Sword and Shield (Gen 8) were first revealed during Pokémon Day 2019, followed by Pokémon Scarlet and Violet (Gen 9) being announced on Pokémon Day 2022. The same is true for Pokémon Sun and Moon on Pokémon Day 2016. Typically, mainline Pokémon games have a three to four-year gap.
If the pattern holds, this Pokémon Day presentation will likely be the grand stage for the reveal. Even if the games do not release until the end of the year, a teaser trailer would fit the company’s habit of using the anniversary to set the tone for the next several years of the franchise. In the past, these trailers usually showed off the new region’s landscape and the three new starter Pokémon that players would choose from. Since the series is now transitioning to the Switch 2, the stakes for this next generation are higher than usual.
Pokémon Champions Release Date Could Finally Get Announced

Outside of the mainline games, we could also finally see Pokémon Champions receive a release date. First announced during the 2025 Pokémon Day presentation, this title was introduced as a battle-focused platform designed specifically for the competitive scene. Unlike traditional entries, it is built to be the permanent home for the Video Game Championships, consolidating various battle mechanics (like Terrestrialization and Gigantimax) into a single experience for the Nintendo Switch and mobile devices.
Many are expecting the Pokémon Day presentation to provide a specific release date, especially seeing as, during the 2025 World Championships, it was confirmed that Pokémon Champions will officially replace Pokémon Scarlet and Violet as the primary competitive game in 2026. Given that the next World Championships will take place in August 2026, it is widely assumed that the game must be released several months prior to give players time to practice and qualify.
While we already know the game will feature a simplified training system and cross-platform play, there is still much to learn about how it will integrate with Pokémon HOME. Many are also hoping to see a deeper look at its specific battle regulations and whether it will launch with the full National Pokédex or a curated selection of competitive favorites.
Pokémon Pokopia Releases a Week After Pokémon Day 2026

Just a week after Pokémon Day 2026 is Pokémon Pokopia’s release. Because the game is so close to hitting shelves, the presentation will likely use its time to simply market the final product. Given that it’s a new type of experience for many fans, players are hoping that Nintendo might release a playable demo on the eShop immediately following the broadcast.
A demo, after all, would give trainers a chance to test out its mechanics—often compared to Animal Crossing and Minecraft—in preparation for the full launch. Even if the segment is brief, it’s almost certain to appear as one of the final marketing pushes for the title.
Other Likely Announcements

Outside of video games, the Pokémon Day presentation is also the primary stage for news regarding the franchise as a whole. The Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG) is almost certain to have a significant presence, especially given the ongoing 30th-anniversary celebrations. Fans are expecting the announcement of a special commemorative expansion set, likely similar to the "Celebrations" set from the 25th anniversary, which could feature remakes of iconic base-set cards or new mechanics that pay tribute to the series' history. There is also potential for updates on the Pokémon TCG Pocket mobile app, which has been a major focus for the company over the last year.
The Pokémon anime is another area where news is highly anticipated. With the current series, Pokémon Horizons, having been on the air for nearly three years, viewers are looking for hints about the show's next major arc or even a new series that aligns with a potential tenth generation of games. There is also the possibility of news regarding the second season of the stop-motion series Pokémon Concierge on Netflix, or perhaps a new animated miniseries in the vein of Pokémon Generations or Twilight Wings specifically designed to celebrate the 30-year milestone.
We are also likely to see updates for the various ongoing mobile and live-service titles. This usually includes limited-time events or new character additions for Pokémon GO, Pokémon Sleep, and Pokémon UNITE. Given the scale of the anniversary, there may even be a surprise announcement for a new non-gaming project. We’ll likely know more in the coming days.
What is Pokémon Day?

Pokémon Day, also known as National Pokémon Day, is an annual celebration held every February 27th to commemorate the 1996 Japanese release of Pokémon Red and Green. Recognized internationally, the event features both online and on-site activities across the Pokémon franchise, including the mainline games, mobile titles like Pokémon GO and Pokémon Sleep, the Pokémon TCG, and various Pokémon media such as TV shows and movies.
While Pokémon Day was first widely celebrated in 2016, it was preceded by smaller, similarly-named European celebrations and events dating back to 2004, which usually focused more on promoting upcoming Pokémon products and media. Nowadays, the celebration helps mostly to connect with the Pokémon community and welcome newcomers and veterans to the franchise alike.
