Eh it was only a matter of time for hu tao to go down, but they have to keep alhaitham up. Arle/Neuvi are just so busted but if they got isolated there SS tier is just "broken" tier, which is irrelevant for most casual players who dont really do abyss. I guess they realized that so it was quickly fixed
Well going by what they posted. Revised recent changes, prioritizing current relevance but also investment required in comparison to other characters in the same niche. Hu Tao specifically is currently competing with Arlecchino as the Pyro carry, who is more self-sufficient and less expensive. They clearly change their method. So in 5.0, it way different than it was for the last few patches.
Also to add on to things. Teams like Hu tao, Yelan Furina, Cloud retainer have been known to be used by her for awhile. For patches now, given Cloud retainer is months old at this point. So it seems old, she was ss tier for such a long time. Even with needing all these characters. Only to now be s tier. Not due to her being worst or others getting better supports. Just now team cost is a issue. Like why didn't they change things sooner? If this was their reasoning?
Well I think the thing is. They didn't make any statement as to why they change their mind about Alhaitham. While Hu tao. they left as is. Which can make things seem confusing. Like wait. Didn't they state he was still the best at low investment. When they move him down to s. now he ss again for reasons. Like what is their reasoning? Seems like if they explain themselves clearly. it would go over better.
im pretty sure investment is one of their main criterias. which i think is why alhaitham is still there even though a bunch of S-tier characters clearly outdamage him or his teams. Like Neuvillette/Arle DPS is actually not that super high in comparison to other 5-stars, but they're just so easy to use to the point that you don't need much to do their job
well a better case would be. She can out damage one of their ss tier characters, depending on the context. Arlecchino is not out right better than her. Which one is best, depends on many factors. Like what is the fight. Aoe, single target? What are the teams. It like are we taking into character power at their max or are we taking into account the cost of their teams. They need to update the detail of their tier listing. If it about team cost and not just big number.
Well nothing on this tier list goes, oh hey. This character need costly teams to get the best performance. That why we move them down a tier. Like they should update their tier listing, if it not going to be just about big number damages but also how costly it is to get a character up and running to reach their max damage performance. In terms of team mates and not artifacts.

Honestly it's been actual years since I bothered to check. Also was the assumption that each hit reliably lands, and that 100,000 is a consistent number over all hits? Now having just gone and watched a C6 Ayaka with 500 crit damage deliver a reliable 16360 per strike to a mob of level 90 opponents. If your Ayaka is in fact a C6 beast with cracked artefacts, a best team and you have an example of her pulling off a of a 2 mill Burst in abyss. I will happily concede she's got potental.

Ayaka doing 2 mil burst + 70k charge attacks vs Al doing 70k mirror attacks (admittedly with slightly higher frequency). Not saying one's better over another since my al's not that good. But al doesn't deserve a higher rank than ayaka
they put al down to s and move him back up to ss in a single day. this tier list is clearly out of its mind.
Ayaka's burst hits 19 times cutting and 1 time bloom. Know your facts before posting
And my Alhaitham does 70k per mirror stack with deepwood on Kuki.
