Who are the Seelies?

Stewards of Humanity

Genshin - Seelies - Stewards of Humanity

Seelies are the mutated forms of Angels, ancient beings who act as the stewards of humanity, who taught and guided humanity towards safety and prosperity. In their evolved form, Angels were said to be beautiful beings brimming with knowledge, in contrary to the spectre-like forms of Seelies.

The Lord of Night Angel

The only named Angel was Yohualtecuhtin, commonly known as the Lord of the Night to the people of Natlan. During the time of Xbalanque, the Night Kingdom can only house Natlanese souls, however, after Capitano infused his soul to that of Yohualtecuhtin's during the When All Becomes a Monument quest, the Night Kingdom obtained the capacity to house souls from other nations who died in the soil of Natlan.

An Exiled Race

Genshin - Seelies - An Exiled Race

It was mentioned nowhere when the civilization of the Seelies started and ended, except from texts suggesting that they're one of the primeval beings whose civilization collapsed around the time when The Second Who Came After was still fighting with the First Descender.

The Collapse of the Kingdom of Seelies

The collapse of the civilization of the Seelies was likely caused by the union between the Seelie and an Outlander held at the Lunar Palace. Both of which were chased by the calamity that overturned the heavens and earth, forcing them to a state of self-exile.

This calamity is presumed to be the Second Descender themselves, who went after the lovers for the remains of the Outlander.

Aria, Sonnet, and Canon

Referred to as the “Three Sisters”, Aria, Sonnet, and Canon were once the Lunar Goddesses that reside at the Lunar Palace. They held the reigns of the Lunar Chariot, each switching places, perhaps representing the waxing and waning of the moon.

Around the time when the Heavenly Principles and the Second Descender were fighting, their chariot was overturned, which ultimately lead to their death. The moon that's hung at the night sky of present Teyvat is believed to be one of the remaining corpses of the Sisters.
