Who are the Three Moon Sisters?

Aria, Canon, and Sonnet are the Three Moon Sisters representing the Three Moons of Teyvat: the Eternal Moon, the Frost Moon, and the Iridescent Moon, respectively. They are goddesses born directly from the Three Moons.
As the deities wielding the authority of the Three Moons, the Dragon King Nibelung tasked them to govern Teyvat in his stead as he departed for the stars.
Co-Existed With the Heavenly Principles
Some time after Nibelung left Teyvat, the Heavenly Principles arrived as the first Descender and fought against its Seven Dragon Sovereigns, taking over the world.
However, since this doesn't interfere with the Three Moon Sisters' purpose, Aria and Canon agreed to co-exist with the Heavenly Principles' rule, with Sonnet being against the idea from the start.
Exiled by Nibelung Himself
Eventually, the Heavenly Principles showed a desire to change the natural order of Teyvat. These forced the Three Moon Sisters to prepare countermeasures and stop the Descender from completely dominating Teyvat.
However, these didn't come to fruition as Nibelung returned to Teyvat to deal with the Heavenly Principles himself.
After finding out that the Sisters tried to co-exist with the Descender, the Dragonking saw this as disloyalty and banished them, along with the Lunar Palace, inside the moon's reflection—believing that they could interfere with the battle.
Helped Columbina Return From the Moon's Reflection
Columbina first met the Three Moon Sisters as she was wandering inside the moon's reflection during The First Sliver of Moonlight Archon Quest. She asks for their help in achieving her plan to escape the moon's reflection and return to the present, which would only be possible with the combined authority of the three original Moon Goddesses.
With their assistance, Columbina successfully ascends as a Trilune Goddess and revives in the present time to help her friends defeat The Doctor, who has already become a False God with the power of three Moon Marrows.
