How to Unlock Headlong Into the Sands
Complete Return from the Mysterious Realm Quest
You can unlock Headlong Into the Sands quest by completing the Return from the Mysterious Realm quest first. The quest should automatically appear on your Quest Journal, afterwards!
Return from the Mysterious Realm
Headlong Into the Sands Walkthrough
Go to the Agreed Location
To begin the quest, meet the other at the agreed-upon place in Hypostyle Desert. Take the waypoint near the area and then use the four-leaf sigil to reach the others.
If you have just completed the previous quest, you may need to set the in-game time to two days later.
Proceed Deeper Into the Unknown Ruins
After conversing with everyone, engage with the quick sand to enter the domain. Once inside, go forward to the giant door and open it, then proceed to the next area with Primal Constructs.
After defeating all the constructs, move to the next door.
Follow Mehrak and Use the Key
After a brief dialogue cutscene, you will need to follow Mehrak around. Mehrak will then stop in front of a pot, where you can smash it with your normal attack and collect a key.
Use the Key to open the door and continue deeper into the ruins.
Explore the Ruins
After a certain point, you will enter a dialogue cutscene, after which the team will be divided into three groups.
You will start with the Tighnari, Cyno, and Sethos group, so open the door and proceed to the end of the ruins.
Look for Other Stone Slabs
Once you've reached a room, look for stone slabs. Two of the slabs are located on the platform above; simply use the sigil to get up.
You can only pick up one slab at a time, so place the one you're holding first before moving on to the next.
Follow the Cat
After finding the two stone slabs, a cat will appear and bring you to the third slab. Simply follow it into the corner of the room to find the slab, then place it to finish the puzzle.
Activate the Great Vayuvyastra
After the scene, activate the huge fan to remove the dust from the slab. Simply use the Sethos or Tighnari bow attack to activate the fan.
Following the dialogue sequence, proceed to the door on the left to switch to the other group.
Follow Mehrak and Search for the Stone Slab
Once in control, follow Mehrak to a room where, like the previous group, you will need to look for stone slabs.
However, unlike the last one, you only need to look for one, as Kaveh and Mehrak will look for the other two.
Once you've found your piece, place it at the bottom of the puzzle and wait for the others.
Attack the Mechanism to Clear Away the Dust
Once the puzzle is completed, use Kaveh to activate the mechanism by attacking it to remove the dust.
Catch Up With Mehrak
After the conversation, follow the cat to the platform and wait for it to disappear, revealing a room below.
Once below, follow Mehrak into the passage to start another scene before switching to the last group.
Investigate the Upper Level
The last group will consist of the Traveler, Paimon, and Layla. Once you've entered the area, check the top floors for four notes.
Start on the left platform and use the sigil to get up. There are two notes in each platform, so simply follow the marker to gather them all.
Sort Through the Ragged Notes
Once you've gathered all of the notes, open your inventory and combine the four. Exit your inventory and read the note with Layla.
After a bit, the other group will arrive, as will the cat.
Follow Thoth
After the conversation, follow Thoth the cat into the elevator and descend for a lengthy dialogue cutscene.
Once finished, collect the chest and exit the domain to wrap up the quest.
