Wanderer was officially released as a playable character during the first phase of Version 3.3 on December 7, 2022.
Version 3.3 Release Date and Patch Notes
The then yet to be named Scaramouche is Raiden Shogun's creation; a test trial to know whether or not the god of Eternity can craft empty bodies to serve as her vessel, a gesture very well apt for the one who oversees eternity.
However, immortality is a gift and a curse, especially for those who feel so deeply and it just so happened that when Ei's puppet came into life, it shed tears. Alarmed by its ability to navigate around human emotions, Ei immediately set the puppet free to live a life of its own.
Despite the good intentions of the Raiden Shogun, the puppet felt otherwise. The puppet felt like it was discarded—left to its devices, with no one to hold on to. And being able to feel human emotions, this perceived act of betrayal is pivotal to what's more to come.
According to Yae Miko during the Archon Quest Chapter II: Act III, Omnipresence Over Mortals, the initial plan was to discard the puppet Ei created, but deemed it too cruel so she instead set it free.
The first to betray me was a god. My creator...my mother. Valuing strength above all, she saw no worth in me, and I was discarded.

The Song of Life artifact piece from the Husk of Opulent Dreams mentions something about a creator who had once created a puppet that was "too fragile, whether it be as a human or as a tool".
The beautiful puppet mentioned in this artifact piece is implied to be Scaramouche himself, who was then sent to the great shrine at Mt. Yougou, the Great Narukami Shrine.
Song of Life |
---|
"...His creator observed thus: He was too fragile, whether it be as a human or as a tool. Yet his creator would not destroy him, and so allowed him to continue slumbering. In her latter works, she would also consign designs that might store such a heart to obsolescence. Not long after, that noblest and most prestigious "proof" in the world would come to have no home, And thus was sent to the great shrine at Mt. Yougou..." |
Song of Life: Husk of Opulent Dreams
Some time after his perceived abandonment, the puppet wandered and wandered until he reached Tatarasuna and befriended, who seems to be, Katsuragi, a believed-to-be ancestor to Kaedahara Kazuha.
From Scaramouche's memories seen during the Dreams, Emptiness, and Deception, it's still presently unclear, however, why this particular point in his life was seen as a betrayal.
The second was a human, my family, my friend. Consumed by fear, he saw me as an abomination.
Source: Story Teaser: TheDivineWill
Although unconfirmed, Katsuragi is assumed to be from the Kaedahara clan, because of the streak of red hair seen during the Archon Quest Chapter 3: Act 3, Dreams, Emptiness, and Deception.
Appearances of scions of Inazuman clans seem to bear importance, especially when Kazuha's grandfather, Kaedahara Yoshinori was spared during the quest, The Palace, Dyed in Black because of his resemblance to Niwa, a clan that studies the Isshin Sword Art.
This kind, young deputy is a direct subordinate of Mikoshi Nagamasa, adoptive son of Mikoshi Chiyo, the oni who went berserk and turned her blade against the Raiden Shogun during the Cataclysm, 500 years ago.
Plume of Luxury |
---|
"...The kind young deputy said: "This gold ornament is a proof of identity granted by the Almighty Shogun," "But as you travel the world, please bear this in mind," "Never to reveal your identity to others..." |
Plume of Luxury: Husk of Opulent Dreams
Mikoshi Nagamasa, the bladesmith of the weapon Katsuragikiri Nagamasa, originally known as the Daitatara Nagamasa, was an inspector to the Inazuma Shogunate whose intention was primarily to restore the honor of the Mikoshi Clan.
Typically seen as upright and stern, when Nagamasa learned about Scaramouche's true identity, he was so infuriated that he slashed Katsuragi using the Daitatara Nagamasa, hence its present name, Katsuragikiri Nagamasa.
This cold-blooded murder of his friend Katsuragi set the wheels of fate turning, letting Scaramouche exact revenge against the Raiden Gokaden.
Katsuragikiri Nagamasa |
---|
"...When his yoriki Katsuragi was connected with but a single trace of misconduct, he had him executed without mercy. Ever since then, the name of the sword and his title were changed forever...." |
Katsuragikiri Nagamasa
Armory Office Miyazaki, Nozomu, and Kinjiro, were the three people who, alongside Mikoshi Nagamasa and Katsuragi, pursued bladesmithing in Tatarasuna.
The group had spent a great deal of time together, and eventually added Scaramouche (then referred to as the "Wandering Eccentric") to the group when Katsuragi fell upon his path.
Miyazaki, Nozomu, and Kinjiro, seem to also know about the Wandering Eccentric and eventually of his true identity, judging from the Rather-aged Notes scattered all around the Mikage Furnace in Tatarasuna.
After the events with Nagamasa and Katsuragi in Tatarasuna, Scaramouche, whom at this point believed to had assumed the name "Kunikuzushi", befriended an ill boy—a son of a craftsman from Tatarasuna.
From his memories during the Dreams, Emptiness, and Deception, it's believed that the ill boy fell upon his mortality, and perished sometime when Kunikuzushi was out to for an unknown business, except that he was bound to Inazuma City.
The third was one, exactly like me. A hope for the future...a fledgling barely out of the nest. Powerless before his mortality, he broke his promise to me.
Source: Story Teaser: TheDivineWill
It's still unclear and purely speculative where this betrayal happened. So far, the only facts that we have are the boy being ill, he's son of a Tatarasuna craftsman, and it was heavily raining outside.
However, it could be assumed that this event happened at Koseki Village, in Seirai Island. Particularly during or some time after Hibiki unleased the Kanna Kapatcir using the "True Magic" she learned from Mt. Yougou.
During the "The Sea of Fog and the Tree of Rites", Kama mentioned something about the way "the-then-inspector acted", which at this point is clear to be Nagamasa. Having the timeline set is crucial, especially for understanding what transpired after Kunikuzushi's second betrayal.
While still unclear, it could be assumed the "heavy rainfall" and "residents not returning home", from the Skeletal Hat artifact from the Husk of Opulent Dreams, refer to an event that involve the two aformentioned phenomena.
This means that Kunikuzushi wandered to Seirai Island, after the grim aftermath of the events in Tatarasuna. It could be noted that Nagamasa's slaying of Katsuragi, was widely known, evident from the description of Katsuragikiri Nagamasa. It would make sense for Kama's ancestor to catch of what happened.
The Sea of Fog and the Rite of the Trees
Kunikuzushi, after joining the ranks of the Fatui, assumed the identity of Scaramouche or the Balladeer. It's believed that Scaramouche joined the Fatui after finding them interesting.
This is also where Scaramouche obtained his Delusion, therefore unlocking the powers that the Raiden Shogun had sealed away.
Eleven Fatui Harbingers
The Dendro Archon's archon quest revolves around Scaramouche, particularly when the Sages of the Akademiya turned him into a man-made god, weilding the Gnosis of his creator, the Raiden Shogun.
Shouki no Kami Boss
Kabukimono is localized as "the Wandering Eccentric", which is another alias for Scaramouche. The notes around Tatarasuna talks about a Wandering Eccentric whom Katsuragi has encountered while patrolling Nazuichi beach.
How to Unlock the Mikage Furnace
Wanderer was revealed to be the chosen representative for the Vahumana Darshan during the Parade of Providence event, meaning that he had become formally enrolled into the Akademiya.
Sometime after the Inversion of Genesis Archon Quest, Wanderer wrote essays on societal issues in Inazuma and the 'Tatarasuna incident' in response to certain research he had read.
These essays earned him notoriety in the Akademiya, leading to Lesser Lord Kusanali registering him in Vahumana under the name ''Hat Guy.''

Nahida |
About The Balladeer When he finally achieved the ambition he thought he'd been pursuing all along, was he content at last, or only emptier still? We only yearn for the skies because we cannot fly... Hmm, perhaps he should reflect on this once he has held the sheer emptiness of the skies in his grasp. |
Raiden |
About Kunikuzushi He came about as a byproduct of creating the Shogun. Perhaps it's because I feel like I owe him something, but I do not wish to assert control over him. |
Sethos | Who is that guy, anyway? A foreign exchange student, or something? He has a pretty incredible hat, never seen anything like it. I tried to get a closer look once, but then I, blinked and he was gone. Shame. I won't let him get away next time, though. I also hear he has some pretty interesting ideas... Gotta have a chat with him sometime! |
Tartaglia |
About The Balladeer After he took the Gnosis, we lost all contact with him. Now comes the task of trying to hunt it down and get it back... I actually don't mind it — it means I get to travel all over. Wonder if I'll run into you somewhere along the way? |
Yae Miko |
About Kunikuzushi I thought it was a disaster waiting to happen at the time, but she insisted that she wasn't going to lift a finger against the object of her own creation. Had I known how things would unfold, I would have simply disposed of it without her knowing. Hmm? What about now? Hehe... Well, we're no longer waiting for the disaster to happen, are we? |
Character | In-Game Thoughts |
---|---|
Arlecchino |
About The Knave A wolf in sheep's clothing. To exert a higher level of control over people, she puts on a graceful and cordial front. Most of those who have seen her true, crazy self... have gone poof. |
Capitano |
About The Captain "The ever-righteous Captain," "the brave and fearless Captain," "the nigh-invincible Captain"... Even my mechanical ears demand maintenance after listening to so many compliments from the members of the Fatui. Don't-you think that possessing absolute righteousness is actually a latent danger? And that's without taking his great personal strength into account. |
Columbina |
About Damsellette If you were to encounter a "damsel" who is oblivious and innocent at any given time, and unconcerned and unfeeling in any given situation? If it were me, I could at least challenge her to a fight. But if it were you... with your conscience, I would stay away from her. |
Dottore |
About The Doctor It's a pity that Lesser Lord Kusanali already forced him to erase so many of his segments. The joy I would have derived from slicing them apart one by one... |
Kazuha |
About Kazuha You speak of the descendant of the Kaedehara clan? Then isn't he... Wait, he also possesses an Anemo Vision? ...And even managed to take on the Raiden Shogun's Musou no Hitotachi? Hehe... Ahahahaha! |
La Signora |
About La Signora Nothing remained in her ashes. I have no interest in those who have lost their future. |
Nahida |
About Lesser Lord Kusanali While I still had value as a pawn, she might have had other reasons to keep me alive. It's certainly possible that it was because she's wise or benevolent, or happened to see a hint of loneliness within me... You think I'm trying to think the worst of her? Hah, did you really expect anything else? In case you've forgotten, I'm no saint. |
Pantalone |
About Pantalone Oh, the ninth-ranked guy. He's obsessed with the idea of "fair exchange," to the point of wanting to overthrow the natural imbalance between gods and humans. But, I guess it's just how ordinary mortals are like — it's easy for them to come up with pointless delusions. Honestly, it's nothing worth writing home about, just like how there's also nothing impressive about his abilities or choice of partner. Hmph. Anyone who chooses to work closely with The Doctor is sure to meet a nasty end. |
Pierro |
About The Jester The Jester is a survivor of Khaenri'ah. Besides that singular fact, I know very little about him, and have never had any kind of close association with him. He seems to want something from me, though. In the past, he assigned to me many important tasks, including a number of trips to the Abyss. |
Pulcinella |
About The Rooster Only someone as dense as Childe would think The Rooster is looking after him and his family out of the goodness of his heart. Although the mayor has indeed done a number of things for their benefit, anyone with a brain would be able to tell that the underlying meaning is "your entire family is in my hands." |
Raiden |
About Raiden Shogun She completely neglected her own creation, and to add insult to injury, she said it was because she "couldn't bring herself to intervene" in my fate... |
Sandrone |
About Marionette She has a terrible personality and cares for nothing outside of her own research. But even with that amount of dedication, she still produced a copious amount of garbage, and could only secure a ranking that's still one whole place beneath my own. How pitiful. |
Sethos |
About Sethos What makes you think I know him? The fact that he's always following me around and asking for a closer look at my hat? We've barely spoken before. The first time we me he came up and asked me if I was Hat Guy. Last time I checked, judging someone by their appearance is superficial. Hmph, somehow, everyone knows the name ''Hat Guy'' now... |
Tartaglia |
About Tartaglia He's simple of mind and not that strong of body. Naming him to the lowest-ranked seat lowered the Harbingers' collective prestige. Thankfully, I'm no longer part of that group. |
Tsaritsa |
About The Tsaritsa Everyone praises her for her kindness and benevolence, but they forget that love is also a form of sin. What if she's just trying to compensate for something? |
Yae Miko |
About Yae Miko A smooth-talking youkai. Though she pretends to care about humans to gain the favor of her god, all she seeks are entertaining ways to pass her time. |
