After Celestial Guardians, I've been playing around with new cards, and think I've found a consistent deck. Pokemon: 2x Bulbasaur, 1x Ivysaur, 2x Venusaur ex, 2x Shaymin (STS) Items: 2x Potion, 2x Poke Ball, 1x Rare Candy Tools: 2x Leaf Cape Supporters: 2x Professor's Research, 2x Erika, 2x Lillie Another deck I used was nearly identical but traded 2x Potions and 2x Shaymins for 2x Jigglypuff (Promo) and 2x Wigglytuff (SR). 1x Guzma instead of a Potion could be good, haven't tried it
Second weakness of the deck is how vital every single card is. Since at their max evolutions both cards in the deck are ex's, you can only really lose one main card in the mid-late game or two in the early. Since venusaur needs 4 energy to start performing and 3 turns of evolution, if the bulbasaur you're investing in gets knocked out at any moment or yoy're forced to put one into the active slot you lose so much. It's a good deck if it sets up but it's so easy to cripple.
First weakness of the deck is its damage numbers. I'e been seeing lots of dialgas, palkias and celebis, and both of the ex's in this deck deal just under what would be needed to KO these pokemon in two or three turns. This also leaves them extra vulnerable to healing from the opponent, as a single potion can put their pokemon over the damage threshold needed to survive. Obviously if you get unlucky with coin flips on exeggutor but i don't think mentioning bad luck is necessary.
Been playing with the venusaur & exeggutir deck a lot and i think the weaknesses part is a bit misleading. The deck isn't hard to set up, it just takes time. You stall with exeggutors and healing items if you need to while hopefully building up to a venusaur. Personally i think the deck's weaknesses are as follows (gonna split this into multiple comments cause of the character limit)
