Whenever you attach a Darkness Energy from your Energy Zone to this Pokémon, do 20 damage to your opponent’s Active Pokémon. |
Damage: 80 |
Darkrai ex's ability allows it to deal 20 damage to the opponent's Active Pokemon every time it is attached with an energy from the Energy Zone. This can be done from any position, whether Darkrai ex is in the Bench or the Active Spot.
Since Darkrai ex is a Basic Pokemon, it can be set up right away during the early game and immediately start dealing damage with its ability.
However, beware that transferring energy using Dawn or other energy accelerators does not activate Darkrai ex's ability. It is written in the ability's description that the energy has to come from the Energy Zone.
Because of its chip damage potential, Darkrai ex is best paired with cards like Weavile ex or Cyrus that benefit from injured Pokemon.
Weavile ex gains an extra 40 damage to its attack if the Defending Pokemon is damaged, while Cyrus can pull in any injured Pokemon from the Bench into the Active Spot—making for very strategic plays.
Best Darkrai ex Decks and Card List
A way to maximize Darkrai ex's ability is to attach energy while the card is in the Bench, so you can deal damage without risking any injury or KO. Once the HP of the Defending Pokemon is within range of your attack, you can switch in with Darkrai ex or another attacker like Giratina ex to land a OHKO.
You can also enlist the help of Red to increase the damage of your attacking Pokemon by 20 if it is facing against an ex Pokemon.
Best Giratina ex Decks and Card List
You can stack the effects of Darkrai ex's ability with other Pokemon or tools that cause chip damage.
Chip damage can build up over time, and your opponent will feel pressured to retreat when their Pokemon's HP is in danger. This is when you can surprise them with Cyrus, securing your victory.
