January 2022

January 14: International Challenge Online Competitions Announced!

Details for the upcoming 2022 International Challenge have been revealed! Three separate online competitions have been announced for February, March, and April and will coincide with the distribution of shiny Galarian Articuno, Galarian Zapdos, and Galarian Moltres, as entry gifts!

Additionally, players in Japan who participate in these online competitions have a chance of winning an entry to the 2022 Pokemon Japan Championships.

The rules for Ranked Battle Series 12 have been announced! From February 1, 2022 to August 31, 2022, two Legendary Pokemon are useable in competitive play as well as Dynamax and Gigantamax.

The Gym Challenge Online Competition has started! For this competition, you can only battle with Pokemon used by Galar Gym Leaders!

Starting November 1, players visiting Pokemon Centers in Japan who can prove it's their birthday month will receive a serial code for a special Birthday Happiny!

As with all Birthday Pokemon, this Happiny knows the move Celebrate.

October 10: Shiny Zacian and Zamazenta Distribution

To celebrate the upcoming release of Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, players will have the chance to get a Shiny Zacian or Zamazenta via Serial Code.

September 22: Shiny Zacian and Zamazenta Distribution

South Korean players who pre-order the retail and digital versions of Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl will receive a special code for Sword and Shield for a Shiny Zacian or Zamazenta, with the code being distributed from November 19 to December 31, 2021.

Pre-orders for the game in South Korea begin on October 1, 2021 for the retail version, while digital versions of the copy are already accepting pre-orders through Nintendo eShop.

New details regarding the 2022 Championship Series season have been revealed, with the most important being some changes regarding the age divisions.

Accordding to Play! Pokemon, the 2022 World Championships will take place over four days starting on a Thursday and will be held in London in August 2022.

Gigantamax Cinderace will also be making a rare appearance in five-star Max Raid Battles and will give you lots of useful Candy upon defeating it. You will not be able to catch it at the end of the battle, but those useful candies are worth having!

Pokemon Official YouTube Channel Japan announced that Dada Zarude is coming this December! You can get Dada Zarude by watching Pokemon the Movie: Coco. This version of Zarude is the same as the Zarude in the movie, which is wearing a pink scarf around the neck with Celebi's Pokedex number.

July 7th: Pokemon Sword and Shield Upgraded to Version 1.2.1!

The latest update for the game is available as a free patch! This update fixes an issue in the Y-Comm where trainers were being mismatched to the wrong Link Code. Hopefully we've received some quality of life improvements with the Y-Comm as well.

To download the update, simply go to the Home menu on your switch, hit the + button while the Pokemon Sword/Shield icon is selected, and choose Software Update > Via the Internet.

You'll need to have your Nintendo Switch connected to the Internet, but a Nintendo Online subscription is not required.
