Once you complete Razor's Story Quest, Lupus Minor, Act 1: The Meaning of Lupical Rifthound Whelps will appear in Wolvendom, Mondstadt. When Version 2.2 came out, it was hinted in the Version 2.2 Preview that Rifthounds may appear in Wolvendom and Springvale in Mondstadt!
Once upon a time, they ran riot across the continent, but they went extinct for a time due to resistance and mass hunts. Recently, however, they have re-emerged. The pack of black wolves that now threaten Springvale and Wolvendom are such creatures.

The Rifthound was shown to pounce at the player in a forward strike, dealing elemental damage corresponding to their type.
Once a Rifthound's attacks hits an active character, that character as well as other characters in the party will continuously be affected by the corrosion status. Affected characters will lose HP every second while affected by corrosion. This effect cannot be negated by a character's shield.
When an Elemental Attack damages a Rifthound, it will enter the Elemental Devourer State which will lessen their resistance to the Element that hit them but allows them to fight more fiercely.
The Rifthounds and Rifthound Whelps are wolf-like creatures from the abyss introduced in Version 2.2. They were made by a mysterious entity called ''Gold''. They can inflict the ''corrosion'' status on their targets.
When a Rifthound attacks, it can apply the ''corrosion'' status on the active character including the rest of the party, which can stack and ignore shields. Corroded characters gradually lose HP.
Active characters attacking Rifthounds are at risk of being incapacitated via the corrosion. The corrosion stops when non-active characters have less than 15% HP.
