Competitive Analysis

Subtitute has the effect of the user taking 1/4th of their current HP and brings out a subtitute in battle. While the substitute in place, it will take damage for the user as well as status conditions and stat changes brought about by other Pokemon. After the substitute takes a certain amount of damage, it will disappear and the user will again take its place. The user will still take damage from weather effects however. The Infiltrator Ability bypasses the substitute as well as Sound-Based Moves.

An example user of this is Gengar who can dish out strong attacks while being protected through the subtitute.
