Galar Mine No. 2

Soft Sand can be found in Galar Mine No.2. Please check the map for an accurate location of the item.

How to Use Soft Sand

The Soft Sand has the effect of increasing the power of Ground-type Moves by 1.2x.

This can be an alternative to choice items since it does not penalize the user in using only one move. However, it is important to note that this only affects Ground-type Moves and is recommended to be used by Ground-type Pokemon that benefit from STAB.

Soft Sand vs Choice Item

You may sometimes have difficulty in choosing between Soft Sand or either Choice Band or Choice Specs.

Advantage Disadvantage
Soft Sand ・20% damage boost to Ground-type moves
・Can use all moves
・Only boost Ground-type moves
Choice Band or Choice Specs ・50% boost to Atk/Sp.Atk ・Locked to one move

Choose the item that will fit the way you will use your Pokemon's moveset.

If your Pokemon will only rely on one Ground-type move, then a Choice item will be the better option. If you think your Pokemon needs to use a coverage or any other move somewhere down the road, then let it hold Soft Sand.
