Sandstorm plays a role in the ever-contested weather wars.
Sandstorm can be spewed on the field by using the move, having Pokemon with Sand Stream or Sand Spit Ability, or by using Max Rockfall.
Most strategies that utilize Sandstorm have Rock, Ground, or Steel-type Pokemon as they are immune from Sandstorm's damage. This means that it can make Focus Sash worthless, provided they don't have the typings mentioned.
The most common Pokemon used in Sandstorm teams are those with Sand Rush, an Ability that doubles the Pokemon's Speed in a sandstorm, or Sand Veil, where their evasion is increased while the weather is present.
A common threat to Sandstorm teams are strategies that requires a different weather, i.e. Rain or Sun teams. Pokemon like Rayquaza and Weezing or Galarian Weezing also pose some threats due to Air Lock and Neutralizing Gas, respectively.
Keeping Sandstorm in the field is a big challenge, especially when facing other weather teams, so it is best to plan ahead!
