Competitive Analysis

Clanging Scales is the signature move of Kommo-o with the secondary effect of lowering the user's Defense by one stage. This is a slightly weaker version of Close Combat, but it only lowers the Defense stat only which could serve as an alternative when using Kommo-o. However, this attack can be paired up with Kommo-o's Clangorous Soul to negate the effects of the lowered stat.

It is also important to consider the risk to reward of lowering your Defense stat while using this move.
