Competitive Analysis

Volt Switch is one of the primary moves used by pivot Pokemon. This move is useful for switching to another Pokemon in your team while being able to deal damage.

Volt Switch can be used to avoid facing Pokemon that the user is not good against and switch to a Pokemon that has a better fighting chance.

Another use for this move is a way for utility Pokemon to make an exit, like after setting up Tailwind or Reflect and Light Screen.

Do note that when you do not have any Pokemon left in your team, Volt Switch will only deal damage.

Volt Switch vs U-Turn

Most Pokemon that can learn Volt Switch are also able to learn U-turn. These two moves have the same effects. but differ in some aspects.

Volt Switch cannot be used against Ground-type Pokemon while U-turn can be used against any type.

In cases where a pivot Pokemon is facing a Ground-type Pokemon, Volt Switch users will be forced to switch Pokemon manually and not be able to deal damage, unlike U-turn.

Additionally, Volt Switch's damage will depend on the user's Special Attack, while U-turn, being a physical move, will depend on the user's Attack stat.
