At the end of its life-span, Melmetal will rust and fall apart. The small shards left behind will eventually be reborn as Meltan. |
Centrifugal force is behind the punches of Melmetal’s heavy hex-nut arms. Melmetal is said to deliver the strongest punches of all Pokémon. |

Melmetal |

This Pokemon does not evolve. |
The new Gigantamax form of Melmetal was revealed in a new Expansion Pass release video on September 29, 2020.
Move | Type | Effect |
---|---|---|
G-Max Meltdown | A Steel-type attack that Gigantamax Melmetal use. This move makes opponents incapable of using the same move twice in a row. |
Melmetal's G-Max Move, G-Max Meltdown, is described as “superpowerful” on the official Pokemon website. It's possible that it will be stronger than other G-Max Moves, similar to G-Max Fireball and those learned by the Galar starters.
G-Max Meltdown also features a secondary effect akin to the move Torment, preventing opponents from using the same move consecutively. This new potential to inflict the Torment status without using a full turn opens Gigantamax Melmetal to new metagame possibilities.
One Gigantamax Melmetal will be available as a free Mystery Gift for players who have linked Pokemon GO to their Pokemon HOME account, and sent at least one Pokemon from Pokemon GO to Pokemon HOME. The connectivity between Pokemon GO and Pokemon HOME was announced on September 29th, and will be available during 2020 by the end of the year.
How to Download and Transfer Pokemon to Pokemon HOME
As of November 12, 2020, Melmetal which were evolved in Pokemon GO are unable to Gigantamax even after feeding them Max Soup. This might still be possible in the future, so we will add more information when it is confirmed.
Although Melmetal is originally not obtainable in Pokemon Sword and Shield, you can get it by transferring it from Pokemon's new cloud service, Pokemon HOME, to the game.
