As a staple item of bulky and defensive Pokemon, Leftovers offer constant recovery for these Pokemon by healing 1/16th of their HP on every turn. This allows them to stay in battle for as long as possible.
You can also let a Pokemon hold Leftovers if you plan on using moves that deal recoil damage to its user.
A common debate about held recovery items is whether the constant heals of Leftovers are better than Sitrus Berry's one-time HP recovery.
There is no definite answer in this question as using one or the other will depend on the situation.
For Pokemon built for stalling, Leftovers is the better option as they can regenerate some HP while using Protect. These Pokemon will also rely on Leftover's constant heals as time goes on for there will be times that you will switch them in and out of the field.
Sitrus Berry fits offensive Pokemon better due to its immediate heal. Offensive Pokemon are usually built to make an impact as quickly as possible. The same manner should also be applied on its recovery options.
