Trick is a status Psychic-type move that swaps the user's held item to its target. This move, along with an appropriate held item, is a great way to weaken or even cripple opponents. The move will still work if only one of the two Pokemon involved has an item.
Take note that Trick will not work on Pokemon with Sticky Hold.
The most commonly used items that are swapped with Trick are Flame Orb and Toxic Orb, which will both inflict status conditions to its holder and deal damage per turn.
Flame Orb will inflict burn to its holder which is effective against physical attackers as getting burned will weaken their physical attacks. Toxic Orb on the other hand will poison the holder.
Another set of items that can be used are Iron Ball or Lagging Tail. Iron Ball reduces its holder's Speed and is a great way of grounding Pokemon while Lagging Tail ensures that the holder will move last in a turn. These items are a great way of slowing down offensive Pokemon that rely on moving first.
A niche strategy for Trick is swapping Choice items to support Pokemon. The goal is to lock these Pokemon into using non-damaging moves.
Trick (TR38) is available to purchase from the Watt Traders in the Wild Area for 2000 Watts.
The Watt Traders' selection of TM and TRs changes everyday so make sure to check what's in stock!
It's also possible to get Trick (TR38) from Psychic-type Max Raid dens as a reward for defeating or catching the resident Dynamax or Gigantamax Pokemon.
It's also possible to get Trick (TR38) from the Cram-o-Matic, although the chances are still low even when using the right items.
