Competitive Analysis

Flamethrower has a 10% chance to inflict burn is one the most commonly used special Fire-type moves thanks to its respectable Base Power and perfect accuracy, with its usage extending beyond Fire-type Pokemon.

Many Dragon-type Pokemon can learn this move and use it to increase their coverage against Steel-type Pokemon. The move also has great neutral coverage when paired with Thunderbolt.

Flamethrower vs Fire Blast

Most Pokemon that can learn Flamethrower can also learn Fire Blast, which boasts higher base power but lower accuracy.

When deciding between the two, it's important to consider whether you want consistent damage or higher damage with the chance to miss.
