Competitive Analysis

Sand Tomb partially traps its target, making them unable to switch out of the battle and deals 1/8 of the target's max HP as damage (which can be improved if the user is holding Binding Band).

Do note that Ghost-type Pokemon cannot be trapped.

The use of trapping moves like Sand Tomb works well for defense-oriented teams as a way to slowly deal damage.
