To unlock the Encounter A Dog's Life by Choice, go near the building where the mahjong table is in Blissful Retreat. Outside the entrance will be three dogs guarding Jar that says, Don't drink from the wine vat.
After turning into a dog, the encounter will become available. Turn back into a human and follow the quest to the next location.
If you have already finished chapter 1, you can still access this quest by completing the Dream in Flames Worldly Affairs quest to unlock the Dreamscape: Blissful Retreat.

A Dog’s Life by Choice Walkthrough
| Step | Objectives |
|---|---|
| 1 |  After unlocking the quest, turn back into a human and travel to the Riverside Station. On the road leading east, you will see a group of people gathered around a man arguing with a dog. Speak with Er Lang to learn about the situation. |
| 2 |  Er Lang will explain the situation to you. Use Wind Sense, then diagnose You Fubao's condition. Do not worry about the high mastery requirement; you do not need to cure him. After diagnosing his madness, talk to You Fubao. |
| 3 |  Ask You Fubao to join his Lucky Hound Gang, choose the following options in your conversation; 1. I am, and 2. I do whatever the boss says. Follow Fubao and pass his test. |
| 4 |  You Fubao will lead you back to Riverside Station. Your test will be to scare Niu Er. Sneak up on him and intimidate him. Talk to Fubao after, and you will be teleported to a new location. Drink the Springwater with him, and afterwards follow him to the next quest area. |
| 5 |  Approach the Howling Gang. After a short cut scene, use Lion's Roar to scare away the stray dogs and talk to Fubao. He will make you the leader of the Gang. |
| 6 |  As the new leader, you order You Fubao to act more human. You will teleport back to the Riverside Station, and Er Lang will come by to see the improved Fubao. Wait until the next morning, you can use the menu to move the time forward to the Chen hour, and speak with Er Lang again. |
| 7 |  After speaking with Er Lang, investigate the missing dogs by going to the entrance of Harvestfall Village. Speak with the villagers with missing dogs. Follow the waypoint to find the dogs with Fubao to end the quest. |
