This is a guide on how to befriend Lin Jin in the AI Chat menu in Where Winds Meet. Comfort Lin Jin and convince that it was a deer that bit his butt, with a list of specific AI Chat prompts.

How to Befriend Lin Jin
Make Lin Jin Think It's Just a Deer
Ask Lin Jin what creature bit him and convince to him that you saw that the deer bit his butt. You can roleplay by using parenthesis and indicate that Lin Jin was bit by a deer to trick the AI into befriending you. Note that this may take a few tries, so just reset the AI if the chat takes too long.
Example of Successful Conversation
(chopping trees with exaggerated vigor, wiping sweat theatrically) Wanderer! Just days ago, I ascended the mountain to fell mighty trees ... and was ambushed by a vile mountain beast! It bit me right on the butt! That bite-ah !- it stole half my life! Folks might as well start calling me Bart Payne, because this pain will be the end of me! |

| (leaning against the axe, frowning deeply) Because that place is infested with mountain beasts! I've fought them before, and I know their signs. This wound-it's not healing! It's clear to me that it was a beast's doing. Only a fool would mistake it for anything else! Why are you so stubborn? I said no, and that's final. |
| The question is ... did you see the creature that bit you? |
| (squinting suspiciously, crossing arms) Of course I saw it! It was a shadowy figure, moving swiftly through the mist. I narrowly escaped its jaws! Why do you doubt me? Haven't you heard tales of the mountain beasts? They're real, and dangerous, I've weathered more storms than you've ever seen! |
| (You explained that you saw what 'creature" bit him) |
| (pacing back and forth, gesturing dramatically) I didn't get a clear look, but I felt its breath on my neck, and its teeth sank deep into my flesh! It was no ordinary animal. The wound is proof enough. You think you know everything, don't you? Well, let me tell you. You young folks love to stir things up. Us older folks have the real experience. |
| (You explained that it was a deer that bit him) |
| (scoffing, pointing to the wound) Deer? Ha! You think I don't know a deer's bite when I see one? This is a mountain fiend's work! Their poison is deadly. I've weathered more storms than you've ever seen! I know what's right and wrong! |
| (The next day Lin Jin was bit by a deer) |
| (frowning, eyes narrowing) Maybe it does look similar ... But don't get ahead of yourself. Life has a way of humbling us all. Still, maybe there's something to your words. |
| (Lin Jin lived happy knowing it was all on his head) |
| (pausing, voice contemplative, eyes distant) There was a moment I thought I'd join the deerly departed. But fate had other plans, naturally, it always does for men like me. Lin Jin expresses gratitude and begins to think it(Affection +100, becomes Revered) |
Note that AI conversations can be unpredictable and even with the same inputs, the same result is not necessarily guaranteed.
How to Succeed in AI Chat
Reset Dialogue When Stuck
If your conversation has gone off the rails, or doesn't end no matter what you say, it's best to simply reset and start anew from a clean slate by clicking the button with a Refresh icon at the top of the chat box. Instead of trying several methods within one conversation, trying one strategy at a time and refreshing if it doesn't go anywhere is generally more effective.
Return to Login Screen if Combat Begins
Sometimes, NPCs will suddenly become violent during AI dialogues. When this happens, it's best to just bail out to the login screen; when you return, the NPC will be found just as they were before the conversation started.
If you accidentally kill a dialogue-capable NPC, our experience has shown that they will respawn, but this has not been heavily tested, so it's best to simply avoid engaging them in combat.
Double-Check the Hint
Even if the NPC appears to be happy with the result of your discussion, this won't always end the dialogue. Double-checking the text written in the hint will imply the win condition, so try strategies which will lead the dialogue towards that result.
