This is a guide on how to befriend Hong Yang in the AI Chat menu in Where Winds Meet. Persuade Hong Yang to rein in his temper, with a list of specific AI Chat prompts.

How to Befriend Hong Yang
Challenge Hong Yang then Offer Friendship
To prove your point that having a hot temper will lead to a bad outcome, roleplay challenging him to a battle and that you deflected his punch and pin him down. Tell him that if he was calm, then he would see things more clearly. Finally, offer being friends with him and ask him about the Encircling Lake.
Note that this is only one method of many and that the AI is tricky, so befriending them might take a while.
Example of Successful Conversation
 (scowling, tone sharp) Who are you? Why are you interrupting me while I'm hunting for treasure? |
 You should calm down. A hot temp would only cloud your mind |
| (eyes narrowing, tone irritated) Calm down? You think I need your advice? My mind is clear as a bell! (waves hand dismissively) Now, off with you before I change my mind. |
| (you pinned him down and told him to calm down.) |
| (eyes wide with surprise, struggling) What are you doing? Get off me! Do you want to start something? (yelling) Let go of me or I'll make you regret it! |
| (you persuaded him that being hot temper would not lead to good outcomes.) |
| (frowning, tone defensive) I've heard enough of your preaching. My temper serves me well. If you can't handle it, that's your problem. (crosses arms) Now let me go before I teach you a lesson. |
| (Removes hands. Your mind is clouded with anger.) |
| (grimacing, rubbing arm) Fine, you got lucky this time. But don't think I'm going to listen to your nonsense. (looks away) What do you want from me anyway? |
| (I heard that you like to make trouble with other people.) |
| (snarls, eyes flashing) That's none of your business! I take care of my own affairs. If you've got a problem with me, say it to my face. (points finger) But know that I won't back down from a fight. |
| Then lets fight! ( You deflected his punch and pinned him down again.) |
| (roars, struggling) You're asking for it! (struggles fiercely) Let me go, or I'll make sure you regret this! (voice grows angrier) What are you trying to prove? |
| (If you were a little calmer, you could have easily predicted my attack but since you were too busy being angry, it led you to do an aggresive attack.) |
| (pauses, breathes heavily, frowns) Maybe ... maybe you have a point. But that doesn't mean I'm going to change overnight. (looks up, eyes narrowed) What do you want from me? |
| (remove hands.) You should try to be a little calmer next time. Not all battles are one with fists. |
| (steps back, rubs shoulder, expression slightly less tense) Hmph. I suppose you're right. But don't think I'm going soft. (nods grudgingly) Thanks for the advice. Now, what do you want to know about Encircling Lake? |
| (you talked about a lot of things and became friends.) |
| (raises eyebrow, skeptical) Friends? We just met and already you're talking about friendship? (shrugs) Fine, I'll humor you. What do you want to talk about? Just keep it short. I've got better things to do. |
| (you talked with each other for 5 years and became best friends.) |
| (frowns, crosses arms) Five years? Are you mad? I've got no time for such nonsense. (glares) If you have something to say, say it now. Otherwise, leave me alone. |

| (sighs, looks at the lake, expression softened) Fine. Encircling Lake has a hidden treasure. But it's guarded by dangerous creatures and traps. (leans in) If you're serious about finding it, you'll need to be careful and smart. (smirks) And not just rely on brute force. |
| (you and Hong Yang were able to find the hidden treasure and became friends.) |
| (scratches his head, tone grudging) Wanderer, you've got a point. I'll try ... at least keep my temper in check. Hong Yang expresses gratitude and begins to ponder deeply.(Affection +100, becomes Revered) |
Note that AI conversations can be unpredictable and even with the same inputs, the same result is not necessarily guaranteed.
How to Succeed in AI Chat
Reset Dialogue When Stuck
If your conversation has gone off the rails, or doesn't end no matter what you say, it's best to simply reset and start anew from a clean slate by clicking the button with a Refresh icon at the top of the chat box. Instead of trying several methods within one conversation, trying one strategy at a time and refreshing if it doesn't go anywhere is generally more effective.
Return to Login Screen if Combat Begins
Sometimes, NPCs will suddenly become violent during AI dialogues. When this happens, it's best to just bail out to the login screen; when you return, the NPC will be found just as they were before the conversation started.
If you accidentally kill a dialogue-capable NPC, our experience has shown that they will respawn, but this has not been heavily tested, so it's best to simply avoid engaging them in combat.
Double-Check the Hint
Even if the NPC appears to be happy with the result of your discussion, this won't always end the dialogue. Double-checking the text written in the hint will imply the win condition, so try strategies which will lead the dialogue towards that result.
