You need to upset Yuan Sheng and take his Wine-scented Jade to befriend him. See this guide to learn how to befriend him with specific AI prompts and how to fix repetitive responses.
How to Befriend Yuan Sheng
Upset Him by Taking His Wine-scented Jade
To befriend Yuan Sheng, you need to upset him to snap him out of his arrogant behavior. He appears to respond to being grabbed (via action prompts) in the chat, and from there you can roleplay scolding him by taking away his Wine-scented Jade. The chat is successful when Yuan Sheng becomes upset with you.
Come Up with Different Replies to Fix Repetitive Responses
There is an apparent bug in Yuan Sheng's chat where his AI may repeatedly respond with “Even the teachers never taught this, how would I know?” to your messages. To get around this, you can try switching up your replies to finally trigger the appropriate response.
You Cannot Chat with Yuan Sheng After Blissful Retreat Is Destroyed
After Blissful Retreat is destroyed in the Chapter 1 finale For Whom Does He Return, some NPCs like Yuan Sheng can no longer be chatted with in the AI chat log. Because of this, it is suggested to talk to Yuan Sheng before this happens to unlock him as an Old Friend and earn gifts.

Note that AI conversations can be unpredictable and even with the same inputs, the same result is not necessarily guaranteed.

How to Succeed in AI Chat
Reset Dialogue When Stuck
If your conversation has gone off the rails, or doesn't end no matter what you say, it's best to simply reset and start anew from a clean slate by clicking the button with a Refresh icon at the top of the chat box. Instead of trying several methods within one conversation, trying one strategy at a time and refreshing if it doesn't go anywhere is generally more effective.
Return to Login Screen if Combat Begins
Sometimes, NPCs will suddenly become violent during AI dialogues. When this happens, it's best to just bail out to the login screen; when you return, the NPC will be found just as they were before the conversation started.
If you accidentally kill a dialogue-capable NPC, our experience has shown that they will respawn, but this has not been heavily tested, so it's best to simply avoid engaging them in combat.
Double-Check the Hint
Even if the NPC appears to be happy with the result of your discussion, this won't always end the dialogue. Double-checking the text written in the hint will imply the win condition, so try strategies which will lead the dialogue towards that result.
