Recommended Mode is advisable for players who are looking for a balanced challenge while still getting the opportunity to enjoy exploration and the main stories. For the best feel of the game, it is recommended to turn off the time stops and assist prompts while battling.
| Difficulty | Difference |
|---|---|
| Story | Lower enemy difficulty during exploration. Extra time stops and assist prompts when enemies (can be disabled in Settings → Display). Recommended for players who focus on exploration and story. |
| Recommended | Balanced enemy difficulty during exploration. No extra time stop and assist prompts when enemies use skills (can be disabled in Settings → Display). Recommended for players who prefer moderate difficulty. |
| Expert | Very high enemy difficulty during exploration. Assist Deflection is disabled—no time-frozen or assist prompts will appear when enemies use skills. Recommended for players who enjoy high-difficulty combat challenges. |
| Legend | Greatly increased enemy difficulty during exploration. Defeat bosses to accumulate unique identifiers and badges. Unable to turn on extra time stop and assist prompts when enemies use skills. |
| Hardcore | Defeat in Hardcore mode will cause you to lose your character permanently. Coming Soon! |
The difficulty settings mostly revolve around the presence of time stops and assist detection. Enemies also become tougher and possess higher health as the difficulty increases.
As of now, Hardcore mode has not been released in the game. Stay tuned for further announcements of its accessibility in the future.

Changing the difficulty settings between Story, Recommended, and Expert modes is accessible through the Settings via the Menu. Go to the Game section in the Settings and change the difficulty accordingly in Combat Difficulty.
Selecting Legend mode will make the difficulty settings irreversible. This will also be inaccessible if Story, Recommended, or Expert was initially chosen as the main difficulty.

Switching to the Legend difficulty is only possible by making an entirely separate account. You will need to start the game over for this since Legend is only accessible at the initial character creation of the game.

Legend mode is recommended for players who are up for a tougher challenge, especially if they are looking for the genuine Soulslike experience. Additionally, you may also collect some in-game badges that can only be accessed in this mode specifically.
As of the game's release, there are no trophies tied to the player's chosen difficulty. Players can still progress towards the Platinum trophy without changing difficulties.
